The Cards definitely will be needing Rolen in the playoffs so for his long term health I suggest that LaRussa rest him everytime they play the Cubs.

I'm not so sure even a 15 day rest will help Rolen. I think he will be needing more than 15 days IMHO.

I absolutely agree, Coach C.

I have my doubts about whether he will be affective the rest of the season and post season. This could be a huge lose to the Cardinals come playoffs.

Did anyone notice today during the Fox broadcast when LaRussa casually mentioned that he expected Rolen and Sanders to be back about the same time--the beginning of September?

One of my buddies said he heard on the radio (didn't give the source - but I do live near Rolen's hometown which is also in Cards' country so I generally trust info like this on Rolen) that Rolen might be done for the season or at best be back at the end of August. Not surprising with Rolen, hoping for him to stay healthy is like thinking Kerry Wood will pitch 200 innings.

Joe Morgan was talking before the game yesterday about how it wouldn't be a surprise if Rolen wouldn't be seen in the Cards' lineup until spring training next year.

OK you can disregard my post then because if Joe Morgan said it then the opposite is going to happen. Rolen will be back 15 days from Friday. Kinda like the whole sac bunt discussion last night. (man, I hate that guy)

The Cards will be fine w/o Rolen. They didn't lose much when he was hurt earlier. Pujols is the key to how the Cards do.

They lost last season when it counted the most while he was hurting.

Regardless of Cubs fans pointing out it was a career year for Rolen last year, he's still a career .283, .375 OBP hitter (including this year's .235 AVG). His loss is huge for the Cards, not considering his defense.

If I were a Cardinal fan, I'd be concerned that Rolen is going to decline pretty early in his career due to all the back problems he played through on the AstroConcrete in Philly. I wouldn't be in full-scale panic mode that he'd completely fall apart, but I'd at least be a little worried that he'll be severely underproducing his contract value, which is about $60M over the next 5 years.

That'll be a fun contract if his injury problems don't go away. Major ouch.

Ouch. That is a big contract.
