Great game, guys! So far the games between Cubs/Cards have really respected the rivalry. Some great baseball. Looking forward to tomorrow's game.

It was a great game but I didnt like the final score. Hopefully, the guys bring their bats the next two games.

Zambrano pitched one of his classic games at Busch. He is definitely maturing and I'm sure the Cubs will benefit. He didn't even freak out over the first inning homer. He outpitched Carp definitely, although I admired Carp's chutzpah.

I like high offense games, but the old-school pitchers duels are baseball to me. I love to see two guys go head to head. On a night when the heat index was touching 100, Carpenter and Z went at it. Very well pitched game, kudos to both.

The ending sucked though.

Was it just me or did it seem like Hollandsworth and Ramirez were arguing about something when they showed them at the end of the game?

Carlos Zambrano usually has St. Louis's number, the July 19 matchup in Wrigley last year being a notable exception. But then again, Chris Carpenter has been the best pitcher in baseball over June and July. Cards probably need to make Z throw a lot of pitches and keep it close until they can get into the Cub bullpen.

Well, that was an immensely satisfying win.

Watching these two managers face each other is one of the most painful experiences a fan should have to go thru....

One operates under prehistoric codes, the other is too busy trying to micromanage the game to death to leave well enough alone.

Yet another glaring example of the gap between the Cubs and Cardinals in fundamental baseball. The Cubs are by far the fundamentally weakest team in baseball, the reason why starts at the top - Dusty. The Cubs lack of sound play is direct reflection of their manager, playing sound baseball is not a talent, its an approach, disciplne, M.O.

It's hard seeing a Cardinals fan post in this thread after a devistating loss, even if that person is respected by me as a poster and the post was equally respectful. Don't take it the wrong way though :)

Aramis was smiling during one of the shots they showed. It sure looked like they were talking about the bounce off the wall and they definitely weren't arguing.

Again why should he have chewed him out? Because he took a good route to the ball and it took a bad bounce? He was in perfect fielding position, but the ball hit the seam and skipped way off to the right.

well it took me about 30 hours to cram my stomach back down my throat and comment on Friday night's game.

deja vu. I've seen this game 30 times in my life. Cubs basically dominate the Cards the entire game, but let them stay in it, only to lose it late on a fluke.

at least it was a unique fluke. crazy bounce off the wall. I guess its better than the usual error, bad call, inability to throw strikes (or as is often the case at Busch, inability to get strikes called) or bloop/seeing eye/broken bat hit that we usually see make the difference in these games.

what a relief to score those two early runs today. only the Cubs can make you say "anything but a guy on third with less than two out."
