OK, I don't try these very often so I'll take a shot. Boston definitely needs 2B help. They also seem to need a backup outfielder after the falling out w/Jay Payton, and their bullpen needs some work.

Cubs trade: Todd Walker, Todd Hollandsworth, Glendon Rusch (also would be insurance in case a starter gets hurt)

Red Sox trade: Hanley Ramirez (Sox would probably shoot this down) & decent pitching prospect

so...

Red Sox trade: Dustin Pedroia & Jon Lester

If Rusch wasn't enough for them, I'd consider Dempster instead. Thoughts?

EDIT - I would be interested in Kelly Shoppach in place of Jon Lester too... Shoppach is a prime piece of trade bait for them with Varitek not going anywhere for a while

And yes, I know I'm thinking trade in a different way than most of the people on this board. I don't think this year's team is good enough to make the playoffs or go anywhere should it manage to worm its way into the playoffs... so I'm thinking future instead.

I'm sorry, Truffle, but ever since you put Josie Maran in your sig I've been finding it hard to pay any attention to a word you say. But keep posting though...

Have you given up on this season? Todd Walker alone, in my eyes is worth Hanley Ramirez and Jon Lester. So, no dice.

From what I know, Pedroia is penciled in as their 2B next year and they are fairly high on him although he was recently hurt. Hanley Ramirez is playing 2B these days and the rumor is that he may be up soon to help with that position (although they just picked up Grafanino (sp?)).

The Red Sox are also very enamored with at least 3 of their potential home grown pitchers (Lester being one of them).

Kelly Shoppach can definitely be had, but from what I've heard and seen, he's not a young guy (I don't think) and his strengths are all on the defensive end - he doesn't have much of a stick.

Truthfully, I just don't think the Red Sox are in the market for offense right now - I think they need pitching (both starting and relief) and I think if moves are going to be made, Theo will trade for improvements in that area.

They have the sticks to win the division this year - they just don't have the consistent pitching.

I'm not saying all those young guys the Red Sox have are great phenomenal prospects because I honestly don't know much about them. What I CAN tell you is that the Red Sox organization thinks very highly of all the guys you mentioned - perhaps they are overvaluing their own prospects (no teams do that do they??? :-P), but that's what I hear about them out in the NE

Todd Walker is too valuable at this point in this season, so we better damn well be getting Ted Williams' frozen head with a Cub's hat on it if we're going to trade Walker back to the Sox.

The only Ramirez I see the Sox dealing, is Manny Ramirez..... and if the Sox throw enough cash in the deal, I'd love to have that monster-OPS goofball in left field at Wrigley.

Hanley is thier top prospect, and with the signing of Renteria Epstein has announced he'll be moving to 2B. While they may need help this year I don't believe they're worried enough to trade a potential franchise player that should be ready next year.

I'm sorry - but I just don't plain understand any theories to getting rid of Todd Walker - he has been a key guy in getting things done for us this year - and his defense is excellent.

I've given up on the season too, pretty much. I wasn't expecting much even when we were 8 of 9, but I say keep Walker. I don't see why everyone is so gung-ho about trading him.

I'm not in favor of any trade that includes Todd Walker unless we're getting Arod, Vlad, Abreu, or Miguel Cabrera.

I'm exaggerating, of course, but why trade one of the top three hitters on the team?

my thoughts exactly!!

I doubt the Red Sox would trade either Pedroia or Lester for Todd Walker, so don't worry Walker-lovers. Lester in particular is having a terrific season. Also, the Red Sox would want a platoon partner for Nixon, so Hollandsworth wouldn't really fit.

They do need pitching, so they might like Rusch. Bet they'd like Maddux, too.

In any case, with the Nats in a tailspin (4-11 since they left Chicago), it's not like anyone is running away with the NL wild card. No one here should be giving up.

Because his contract is up at the end of this season? Because my opinion has been well-established that this team is going nowhere fast this seaon?

Shoppach is prime trade bait and could be a cheaper alternative for Barrett. I don't care what they've said about Pedroia; their second base play has been incompetent this seaon and they would deal him for an excellent hitter like Todd Walker. Renteria is locked up long term; are they going to play two second basemen next year (Ramirez and Pedroia)? One of them is expendable, this I guarantee you.

Excellent point about the platoon for Nixon, whoever made it. He's atrocious against LHP and killer against RHP. Not sure if we could offer anyone to platoon with him, but Walker and Rusch would be excellent value regardless of whether another OF could be included as bait. While Walker is hitting well lately, let's be honest -- his numbers are well above his career average recently, and he's in the walk year of his contract. IMO if we keep him, he leaves for zippo in free agency.

Outside of our good SP, Lee and Ramirez, nobody has more trade value than Walker right now.

also remember walker is relatively cheap for his production. tough to trade someone who is actually helping, under contract and not overpaid.if he was a free agent then maybe just to get something.
