Why would you want to send Novoa down, he has been our only consistent arm of late besides Dempster. I agree that Remmy needs to be DFA'd, ecspecially now that it is the cool thing to do this year is DFA players. But Bartosh is not a quality arm, there is a good reason the Indians let him go, he couldn't get the job done for them and he showed why before the break. He shows the ball too early in his wind up allowing hitters to track it more easily.

I disagree with the "Bartosh is not a quality arm" theory. Mark Shapiro actually wanted to keep Bartosh, but had no room to keep. Was it trying to sell Bartosh onto some team, perhaps, but I get the feeling that Hendry doesn't get fooled, in terms of scouting. I honestly believe Bartosh will be a solid pitcher for the Cubs, if Dusty ever uses his bullpen CORRECTLY.

Weurtz looked so dominant at the beginning of the season, then he's fallen apart since, i can't get over it...he might need to get his act together if he wants to stay with the club much longer.

 

Novoa was looking good for about 5 or 6 games, but his last 3 have been garbage, I think he's a better 6th or 7th inning man, especially because he has the ability to stretch it out an extra inning.

 

Remlinger has gone to the wayside this year...he can't stay healthy, and can't get out of innings. Maybe he would do alright if given Ohman's role, but for all we know Ohman can't handle entire innings consistently.

 

As far as who to lift, I never liked Bartosh's release and I don't know if he'll be any sort of an upgrade to what's on the roster now...I have yet to see Wellemeyer go out there and get whipped around a lot of times, he's wild, but he always gets sent down w/ an ERA under 4.2....other than that, these guys obviously aren't getting lifted because they're not as good, because we've got an Iowa full of relievers on the team already.

No you weren't. I also agree that Novoa should be sent down to AAA. He has absolutely no control and times. His WHIP is horrible and sooner or later his ERA will skyrocket.

I agree. I think Novoa has got some good stuff, but its not quite ready for prime time just yet. The problem is with whom do you replace him? And who else should be moved?

 

Jermaine Van Buren had a breakout year in '04 and has followed it up with an equally convincing first half this season. In AAA, he is holding opponets to a .171 batting average. His WHIP is just under 1 and his ERA is just above 2. He is striking out well over a batter per inning. He seems like the perfect candidate to bolster the bullpen in house. What more does this guy have to do?

 

As far as who else should be moved, I say overhaul as much as you can. Besides Ohman, Dempster and maybe Rusch, the Cubs don't have anyone in their bullpen that they can really count on. Novoa, Mitre, Remlinger and Wuertz have all been hot and cold. If you replace one of them with Van Buren and another with Williamson, then you could bring up Hill as the third guy and just go with a 6-man pen. But I would do what I could to trade for Twins reliever Jesse Crain. He might be costly, but he wouldn't be a rent-a-player, so it would be worth it.

 

That would give the Cubs a pen of Dempster, Williamson, Crain, Ohman, Rusch, Van Buren and maybe Hill. That's not too shabby.

hmmmm.... did this post contribute anything at all? The only valid argument I see above is the walk issue. The rest is poorly thought-out garbage. If you were attempting a joke, I don't think making fun of people with physical handicaps is that funny at all, nor is your buddy mispronouncing somebody's name :?

hmmmm.... did this post contribute anything at all? The only valid argument I see above is the walk issue. The rest is poorly thought-out garbage.
