Who would have thought that Billy Beane traded away the right two guys? After looking at the three pitchers stats I would say that Barry Zito is the one having the best year, and I did not see that coming at all.

I was skeptical regarding Mulder's health. When you have a pitcher who has a hip injury that's nagging and never seems to go away along with him having second half fades recently...well, predicting a Cy Young is quite far-fetched.

Hudson surprised me. Atlanta has done a tremendous job of handling pitchers in the past. This season has been realy odd for them considering how Kolb and Hudson have done. I was expecting him to be the best of these guys.

Zito has impressed me. But Danny Haren...wow. Remember when the Cubs got like ten straight hits off of him? Did anyone see this coming?

Hey, the A's took two VALUABLE arms, and an outstanding---albeit a few yrs away---bat away from the Cards. I mean imagine if the Cards still had Haren/Calero/Barton, do you think the Cubs COULD HAVE top and offer of Haren/Barton/3rd prospect for Dunn? I don't think so. The A's did the Cubs a favor, by taking away some valuable ammuntion for the trade deadline.

It's more than halfway through the season, and Haren has looked as good or slightly better than Mulder. The A's got a pitcher of equal caliber and two of the Cardinals other best young players while dumping salary. Walt is a good GM, but Beane worked him over.

At this point, Mulder is nowhere near the "ace" the Cards thought they got.

Yeah darn those 14 game winners. While his stats may not be great (I havent even seen them) he has kept his team in the game long enough to have 14 w's

The team has 14 wins or Mulder does? I though Mulder was sitting on 10.

Anyway, Juan Cruz has a 1.86 ERA for AAA Sacramento in 5 starts (1-0). He has pitched 29 innings. Meanwhile, the jewel of the deal for Hudson, Dan Meyer, is still struggling for Sacramento with an ERA over 5.50 with a 1-5 record.

As I suspected, Oakland will be fine with respect to its pitching. Beane now has to focus on cleaning up the offense.

Mulder has 10 wins. Carpenter, who is ace material, has 14.
