Hendry seems to think Garciapparra' will be effective upon his return, is this good or bad? How much more than a healthy Perez can Garciapparra give the Cubs?

50% Nomar is 100% better than a healthy Perez. Neifi is not good and his good start is turning into a negative for this team because people think he can do it again and his season stats are skewed from it as well.

I'm going to disagree here, because SS is a defensive position, and if Nomar is 50%, he'd absolutely murder us in the field. As aggravating as Perez is, defensively he's average.

I would hope that Dusty learned something from the Chad Fox epirement. I don't think he'll put Williamson in the closer role unless something happens to Dempster.

But I guess anything's possible.

I gotta agree on the defensive questions around nomar. Perez can't hit for Sh-T, or atl east can't hitm uch other than meaningless singles, but he's a plus fielder.

Nomar likely won't have much range, likely won' be able to run, and I have my doubts that give nhis injury, he'll be able to really drive the ball seeing as how hips and leg drives really help batters generate power.

he MIGHT be okay- maybe even solid at the plate, but can he play SS? No clue.

I agree with you. For as much as I dislike Perez, defensively, I have little problem with him. There are at least two balls I've seen this series that Perez has gotten to that I don't think even a 100% Nomar would have gotten to. Nomar may have to be a monster with the bat to make up for base hits that will be hit between ss and 3rd or up the middle.

Is everyone forgetting the amazing spring training Nomar had?

As you noted, a crappy first couple of weeks at of the gate will do that to you. A good spring and 25 cents will get you a cup of coffee.

Maybe.

I realize you added the disclaimer "maybe", but do you not drink coffee? I would imagine you must not, because I don't know where in the hell you can get a cup of coffee for 25 cents.

We are certianly NOT "desperate" for a closer. We shouldn't even be looking for one. Dempster is doing quite well, and the job should be his until he proves that he can't do it anymore.

I didn't look this up, but I think he is something like 15/16. That rate compares with the best closers in the game. He may not be a Gagne or Rivera, but he is still doing a terrific job. Also, he is a lifetime starter so if the situation comes up where he must pitch 3 innings, he should be able to handle it.

A cup of coffee as in, a short trip to the major leagues. At least, that's what they say on the commercials. Or did they make that up?

Man, y'all are pretty skeptical about Nomar. I think he's going to provide a big lift offensively. Nomar was off to a bad start, but the guy can still hit. He wouldn't come back and jeopardize his career if he wasn't healthy. Defensively he's not Neifi, but he's still pretty good. Offensively he sure isn't Neifi.

Should we land a real LFer, our 6-7-8 going Burnitz, Nomar, Barrett would be pretty freakin sweet.
