Talk on the Score was about our schedule, about 70 games remaining, and 23 of those against the Cards and Astros. We might have the toughest schedule down the stretch of any team this year. Do you feel we still have a chance of catching up in the Wild Card Race with that tough schedule looking us in the face?

I like our chances of a wild card still. However, I would like to see someone other than a drunk guy put together next year's MLB schedule.

Last year we were practically done with these two teams at the all star break. This year, we've hardly played them at all so far. Next year, a little better balance would be nice. I suppose it is a bonus to still have all these games with these teams and be at nearly full strength.

Better now than at the beginning of the year what with injuries and our Frankenstein-like lineup.

Plus, this means we can make up some huge ground in the WC or Division (heh, if that happens I'll eat my hat).

We actually have one of the easiest second half schedules according to the SOS.

Which means for the most part we are playing bad teams and the Astros and Cards...definitely the best way to move up. Of course we have little to no chance of catching the cards.

I guess at least the "ball is in our court" to do with as we are able - if nothing else this will test the real ability of our team to compete when needed.

If you look at their record against the NL Central, the Cards have been pretty ordinary when they're not beating up on the Reds and Pirates.

The schedule works to the Cubs' advantage in that they missed the Astros ridiculous hot streak that put them back in the race.

The Cubs need to do what the Cards and Astros have done: beat up on the weak teams and stay just above .500 against the good ones. The Nationals are fading, The Dodgers are imploding, The Marlins are in disarray and no one takes the Mets seriously.

We could see another Cubs- Astros battle down the stretch for the WC

Has anyone noticed that Washington in last in the league in runs scored? There is no way they will finish on top of that division. I believe the cubs will be battling it out with the 2nd and 3rd place teams in the east and the Astros for the wild card. I'm always keeping my eye on Florida, Philly, and Houston.

The Nationals are merely catching up with their Pythagorean record. With their lack of run production, a slump like this was inevitable.

Ah, but you forget that MLB is quite possibly the most reactionary sports organziation of all time. The reason they back-loaded the schedule so badly this year is because people complained last year when it was front-loaded. God forbid they just react rationally and spread out the games over the course of the season.

I believe MLB already made that change for next year. This is the last year that the person that has been creating the schedule for years is doing it. If I remember correctly during the offseason or late last season there was a publishing saying a company actually will be creating the schedule for the next two years as they showed better balance and price. I could be wrong but could swear that I read that somewhere.

I thought I read that the new company did this year's schedule. I'm not positive though.

HUH?

vs MIL 6-2 (.750)

vs HOU 9-2 (.818)

vs PIT 7-2 (.778)

vs CIN 7-3 (.700)

vs CHC 1-1

Other than the Cubs, the Cards WORST % is against the Reds at .700
