They lost another today and perhaps their luck is running out. It's amazing they're 14 over still and have been outscored by their opponents this year. How would Bill James explain this?? :)

I'm glad to see Washington slowing down, because I think catching Atlanta would be very difficult. Cox is so much better than Dusty it's not even funny.

Yet Dusty dispatched Cox & his Braves in the playoffs rather handily...

How do you figure? Both times they faced each other in the playoffs, Bakers squad won in the deciding game.

This doesn't surprise me at all. A team can't sustain winning like that for long periods of time. You can't just win a bunch of come from behind games and really close games and expect it to continue forever.

That's about right. So I figured the Cubs were probably just lying in the weeds for the most part, just waiting to pounce when the time is right.

*Shrug* Hey, it's the best I can come up with..

Washignton hasn't played very well on the road (except Wrigley), so this isn't a surprise. I think it will be a collapse if they fail similarly at home, where they have a 30-13 record. They also play Colorado next, a team that any contender must beat. So, that series might be a better indication.

So what are you arguing for? Isn't that what I just said?

He's saying that taking a series to the deciding game isn't beating a team handily.

You said they dispatched the Braves "rather handily" but winning 2 series that could go either way doesnt seem handily. Point taken though.

I think their CHEMISTRY was thrown off by their recent additions. :ducks and hides:

Well thats what my dad said... those silly cardinal fans and their "chemistry."

Nick Johnson on the DL sure isn't helping either though, he was hot before getting hurt.

That's also another thought. Ever since Johnson went to the DL, they lost quite a bit games than they won. I can't recall the numbers right off my head, but I just remember (I think) it was either BBTN or SportsCenter was mentioning the fact that they are missing their RBI guy, or something along the lines like that.

Hasn't Cordero appeared in an inordinant amount of games already?

They're running out of gas. The Cubs need to pass the Phillies and move out of the way as Washington plummets past them in the WC standings.

Cordero has already appeared in 48 of the Nats 93 games. He's pitched 50 innings so far.
