They didnt just yank Estrada, he came up lame after fielding a bunt in the 6th...faced the next 2 batters but didnt have the same oomph on his FB or follow through leg kick....

it looked like a groin when he lunged for the ball, no report from the clubhouse yet, hopefully he is ok....

Tough luck for him... I'm sure with the game he was having that he would've loved to have a shot at the perfect game.

Estrada is ok. Heat was also a factor for him coming out (99 plus humidity). He shouldnt miss a start

Glad to hear it. I played a soccer game here in the DC area -- 100% humidity, 95+ degrees and no wind. It was freaking awful.

Sorry but as a meteorologist I am gonna have to call you on this one... 100% humidity with 95 degrees would mean a dewpoint of 95 degrees, and I can't recall a time when the dewpoint in the United States was ever above 85. It's hard to get a dewpoint above 75 in DC in the afternoon, especially with a temperature of 95+.

RH's were around 60-70% all afternoon, which is definitely bad for the DC area - but 95 degrees with 95 dewpoint would be the craziest weather observation I've ever seen. :D

OK, please resume minor league baseball discussion...

Given that I take a thermometer with me to the games, I can tell you that it was, indeed, 95 degrees on the sidelines, out of the direct sun. Now, why do I take a thermometer to my soccer games? Good question. I got dehydrated very badly once because I underestimated the amount I was sweating. The temperature also determines how much/how often we need to sub.

It may not have been 100% humidity, but it felt like it. The grass remained wet and slick all game long -- despite the heat, it did not dry out at all. And the puddles near the goal mouths suffered no evaporation.

Ugh. What happened? :(

Strained muscle (I think). Ron said it wasn't serious and that he shouldn't miss more than one start.

Daily Corey update: 2-5 HR, 2B, 2 RBI, K

Not bad....I'm guessing his stats aren't the most important thing here as these games are more likely being treated like Spring Training games where Corey is more focused on changing things and getting into a stride with his swing.

Great. I could care less about the strikeouts right now. The first step for him will be to start hitting the ball hard again. When he tried to shorten his swing this year, it didn't do much for his K/BB ratio, but it did have a big effect on his BA. He hit way too many weak ground balls and pop ups this year.

Agreed. I actually think that the Cubs might be well served to let Von Joshua coach Corey for some time.

Hopefully it isn't too serious.

DAYTONA DROPS SUNDAY MATINEE IN SARASOTA 3-0

The Reds Scored Three Runs On Three Hits In The Second Frame, And Both Pitching Staffs Dominated The Rest Of The Way

By Bo Fulginiti

SARASOTA, Fla—Anyone who witnessed the second inning of Game 2 between the Sarasota Reds and Daytona Cubs knows all they need to know about what happened at Ed Smith Stadium on Sunday.

In a contest dominated by two pitching staffs, the Reds scored the only three runs of the day in the bottom half of the second inning when second baseman Luis Bolivar lined a bases-loaded three-RBI triple off of Cubs starter Yorkin Ferreras (0-3) to guide Sarasota to the win by a final of 3-0.

Ferreras was solid in his fourth start for Daytona, as the right-hander struck out nine Reds and gave up just four hits in six innings of work. But the Cubs managed just four hits of their own on the afternoon, and the southpaw was charged with his third loss of the season.

Reds starter D.J. Mattox (2-5) gave up two hits in five innings to notch his second victory, and righty reliever Jim Paduch pitched the final four innings while he surrendered just two hits to record his first save of ’05.

With the loss the Daytona Cubs dropped to 6-16, as the Reds improved to 10-12 in the second half.

The two teams will meet back at Ed Smith Stadium on Monday for the final two games of the series as part of a pair of seven-inning contests.

First pitch of the twin bill is set for 5:00 p.m. EST.

When was the last time williamson pitched? i havent seen his name for a while, any news on him?

Check the injury update thread. It's been over a week, I believe, since he appeared in a game for Mesa, but he's probably less than a week away from going on a rehab assignment.

Just found out my older brother visited friends in Iowa yesterday and they went to the I-Cubs game on a whim. Good move.

SS K. Reynolds 0/1, HBP – left game after HBP

Ouch:

BoiseHawks.com[/url]"]SS Kyle Reynolds saw his seven-game hit streak ended when he was hit with a fastball in the face during the third inning...Reynolds was transported to a local hospital, where x-rays were negative.
