he sucks.

Some people can pitch forever, some can't. At 39 years old (40 in October) I think it is time he called it a career. He's had a nice career but I honestly don't see anything worth sticking around for at his age, he's not going to be breaking records or anything.

I wonder if the Cubs opening that can of whoopass on him had anything to do with it?

It doesn't make up for his blatant cheerleading during the '03 NLCS, but it's pretty satisfying seeing his career (hopefully) end on such an embarrassing note at the hands of the Cubs.

I'm sure he'll sign with somebody for the duration of the year. Maybe the Yankees, Red Sox, Giants or Padres will take a flier on him.

Another reason to hate him is that his crappy pitching let Neifi have his first good game in a long time, making it even less likely that Ronny Cedeno will ever play.

Leiter is an excellent color man on baseball broadcasts. Based on his recent pitching, he should pursue that full-time starting now.

I thought he was decent in 2003. Light years better than McCarver.

that doesn't take much

Leiter wasn't bad at all last season for the Mets. I actually thought he'd be decent, seeing how Dolphins Stadium is a pitcher's park.

Oh well. Age can hit out of nowhere I guess.

I guess I shouldn't blame him for cheering openly for his former team. It wasn't as annoying until game 6. I blame Fox for putting him in that position in the first place. In fact, didn't Fox also have Bret Boone doing the Yankees series with his brother Aaron playing for the Yankees? Seems like they should have switched the two for the sake of objectivity.

Meanwhile, Lieter will have to get in the forgiveness line behind Steve Garvey and Will Clark.

Brett Boone was a terrible color announcer. He said about 9 words during that entire seven game series. There may have even been a few times when he didn't respond to a direct question.

at first glance, leiter had a GREAT year last year. but then it dawned on me that any senior citizen pitcher who walks 5 batters per 9 innings and has a BABIP of .240 is bound to implode

That was the rumor that Sutcliffe floated last night during the Sox / Yankee game (Yankees interested). I imagine they might be a bit more interested now since Wang, Pavano, and Brown are all on the DL.

$60MM for a starting rotation just doesn't go as far as it used to, huh? LOL

he sucks.

nice insite! Do you have a link?

I think it would be hard to find a link saying Leiter sucks. You just have to take it on faith.

Leiter is Schilling-light: lots of talking, lbut w/ less results. He's an arrogant clubhouse lawyer on his last legs. That's why the Mutts let him walk. Then he blamed "Mike and the Mad Dog" (best sports radio talk show I have ever heard; out of NYC) for the Mutts' decision to cut him loose. Bush league.

I'm kinds surprised there isnt a thread about this yeat. I guess no one cares. He'll pitch Sunday @ Boston. I think Al shoud just retire, he's obviously past his prime.
