Bye bye. Bye bye, baseball!

Corey crushes a 1-1 pitch (took a strike and then took a ball) off the scoreboard in right center!

Go Corey!

solo shot?

I have a question, why is nobody allowed to bash the Cubs at all but you take every opportunity to bash Corey? The double standard is getting very tiring.

How am I bashing, Corey? He has a trend of hitting solo Hr's this year. He is in the development stage of his career so he can get back to the bigs & I'm just curious if those trends are beginning to change. I'm rooting for Corey!

Ransom's RBI triple makes it a 4-0 I-Cubs lead.

Should I stop hoping for Cody to be promoted so Cedeno can return to Iowa and actually play? With Nomar's timetable, there's just about no chance that he gets more playing time. I'd be much more comfortable with Ransom doing nothing than Ronny.

Corey grounded out to third on the 2nd pitch in his 3rd AB.

Will be interesting to see how the former first round pick will do out of A ball. Although he lost a lot of value when he switched from SS to OF, at least he's a prospect again.

In his third AB, Dooby singled sharply to left.

I made a mistake on his 2nd AB. I thought Kelton had singled and Dubois grounded into the FC. It was the other way around. Dubois is 3-3.

First of all, it isn't Corey's fault if nobody got on in front of him. Secondly, that statement isn't just referring to this comment. It is referring to all of the times that you have bashed him in the last several months. I would look for them and give you links but I don't feel like wasting the time and I think you know what I am talking about.

Wellemeyer is doing well, especially after his 22-pitch first inning, but he seems to be giving up a lot more fly balls tonight than usual (including plenty on or near the track). He has a shutout through 6, though, on 4 hits, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts. 7-0 I-Cubs.

Corey struck out on a 1-2 pitch in his 4th AB. He was the third strikeout of the inning.

Bartosh gives up a couple of unearned runs on a walk and 2 singles after a 2-out error.

Doobie struck out in his 4th AB.

How am I bashing, Corey?

I think this is what BurntOutCubbieFan was talking about:

"Corey is such a hack!

"Corey,Neifi & Sosa (3 easiest outs in baseball excluding C's,of course)"

"Good to hear the Cub fans Booing Corey. He deserves every bit of it!"

"Why on earth is Neifi swinging at a first pitch curve on the outside corner?"

"He must have been behind Corey in the batting cages before the game."

"Who wants to bet that, with the warm and windy day, the Cubs will be swinging at the first pitch all day long and Miller will throw a 90 pitch CG?"

"I will guarantee Corey will be first pitch swinging!"

"or 2nd pitch. Way to work the count Corey!"

"uh what the heck Hollandsworth? What a dumb play that was."

"Hey, Holla Was that a Corey or Neifi impersonation?

"this situation corey has to be patient."

"He doesn't listen to his coaches why do you think he would listen to you? "

All of those quotes followed this series of quotes:

"Bashing management or other Cubs players is something I felt Trolls do."

"We're the worst running baserunning team the last two years in the history of baseball! How can a team NEVER make the right choice. You'd think they would get one right at some point."

"Never? you may want to tone down the pessimism or just get off the bandwagon."

"he problem is is that Hendry will probably lowball those guys too and we'll be stuck with Macias and Burnitz starting next year..."

"Pessimism at it's best! [-X "

"I'm off to work.I fear Ill come home to see a loss on the board like yesterday though.Have a nice day guys."

"Can you tone it down with the pessimism? Pointing out postives & negatives is one thing, to just focus on the negative gets very annoying."

"Since we're all complaining about this pathetic lineup, you know what that means. The Cubs will go out and score about 10 runs!"

"shhh!! don't tell the pessimists that, they won't know what to do with themselves if they can't complain about something!"

"Pessimists like Don & Cal Raisin are getting more noticeable everytime I read one of their posts in this forum."

"Enough with the negativity!!!!

If the Cubs suck so bad, how the hell are they even in the WC race?

YOU ARE A COMPLETE MORON!!!!"

wow, when you really lay it out like that, you can just see how foolish he looks. nice.

kudos to corey...glad to see him get off to a good start. though, as someone else mentioned, i'd have rather seen him go to WT so he could work w/ joshua.

Mesa: probably LHP Mark Pawelek (0-2, 0.00 ERA)

No earned runs, yet two losses? Ouch, talk about tough luck.

That's what happens when you have a rookie ball defense behind you and only pitch 3 innings at the most. He has no chance at getting any wins, not that that matters.

Also, an update on his stats: 12 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 0 ER, 6 BB, 19 Ks, 14.25 K/9, 0.92 WHIP, 0 ERA.

I agree he's been hypocritical but I'm glad that you (a well long standing member of this board) would go against the board's policy.

Kudos

Corey Patterson batting in the 2 spot gets in a quick 0-2 hole, and K's on a pitch low and away in his first AB

I guess bad habits are hard to break!

From Bo:

TAMPA EDGES DAYTONA IN 7-6 CLASSIC

The Two Squads Swapped Punches Several Times Until The Yankees Were The Last Ones Standing in The Ninth

By Bo Fulginiti

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla—In front of 4,889 rabid fans on a Thirsty Thursday at Jackie Robinson Ballpark, the Daytona Cubs and Tampa Yankees put on quite a show.

In the finale of a four-game series the Cubs and Yankees engaged in a classic chess match, as Daytona jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and Tampa answered the call down the stretch with runs in five of the last seven frames to hang on and win by a final of 7-6.

The Cubs lineup made a statement right away as they drew first blood with a three-run four-hit first inning off of Yankees starter Jason Jones, followed by a run in the third on two doubles from Brian Dopirak and J.J. Johnson to take the four-run lead.

But Tampa wouldn’t stay grounded for long as the Yanks jumped on the scoreboard in the fourth inning after Yosvani Almario stroked a leadoff triple off Cubs starter Anderson Tavarez and later scored on a sacrifice fly from centerfielder Rudy Guillen to make it 4-1.

Then in the fifth frame the Yankees got the wheels spinning as they scored three runs on four hits including back-to-back RBI doubles from third basemen Hector Zamora and shortstop Grant Plumley to tie the ballgame at 4-4. The game wouldn’t stay tied for long either as Tampa first baseman Cody Ehlers smashed a solo homerun in the sixth, and then it was Plumley again who two innings later added a clutch two-RBI single to put the Yankees up 7-5.

Daytona did keep the Yanks within arms length in the waning moments as they added a pair of solo homeruns from catcher Tony Richie and left fielder Kevin Collins to climb to within one run. But the Cubs ran out of magic in the ninth as designated hitter Chris Walker was stranded at third after a two-out triple as Yankees closer Paul Thorpe got shortstop Carlos Rojas to line out to shortstop to end the game and preserve the win for Tampa.

Yankees reliever Jeff Kennard (7-1) was credited with the win after giving up one earned run on two hits while pitching the seventh inning, as Cubs righty Jason Wylie (0-1) was charged with his first loss after giving up two runs in the sixth inning for Daytona. Thorpe also added his 19th save of the season for Tampa.

With the loss Daytona dropped the series 3-1 and fell to 5-15 for the second half, as Tampa improved to 7-12 in the West.

The Cubs will now hit the bricks and head for Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota as they prepare to take on the Reds for a four-game series. Game 1 is set for Friday evening with a first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m EST.

With it everywhere else on the board, Corey bashing won't be tolerated in the minor league forum.

With that said, that's enough of the personal stuff.

Now, to get back on topic, the main thing I want to see out of Corey right now is hits. I don't think that he can begin to really work on his command of the zone until he starts to make consistently solid contact with the shorter swing he's working on.
