Andre Dawson just hit a softball to the warning track in left field of Comerica Park. He almost came out of his shoes. It was a few feet shy of going out. What a prodigous shot. Did anyone else see it? And Chelios is playing too, repping the Cubs with his cap. He hit a triple after Andre's homer. Most impressive.

Back in the dark ages, they used to have the derby, skills competition and old-timer's game on the same afternoon. I have a tape somewhere of the 1990 old-timer's game at Wrigley - they actually played real baseball, no softball foolishness. Seems like Richie Allen homered. Gaylord Perry pitched, and wore a jersey with a dozen team logos on the front.

 

The derby wasn't even televised, a shame because Sandberg won it.

Was it up around his eyes? I have never seen a player handle a face-high fastball better than Andre Dawson.

 

Even though I worshipped him as a kid, I still have tons of man-love for the guy.

I have kind of a strange question about that game. Did anyone else see the guy from desperate housewives with an astros hat? I thought he sang take me out to the ballgame and told pat and ron what a big cub fan he was? Anyone else remember this absolutely ridiculous tidbit of information?

I turned the game on a half inning before those hits and saw bot of them. Dawson's homer was pretty awesome, almost an actual regulation homer.
