This team needs a serious kick in the rearend and firing their "leader" could be it. The Cubs have plenty of talent and adding more talent will be nice, but w/ Baker managing, the talent will go to waste.

If the Trib's willing to eat the majority of Sosa's deal, Baker's should be no problem. Baker's more of a problem than Sosa.

End of rant..

Dusty is neither a good manager nor a bad one. He is quite average. You could do better, you could also do much worse. And, believe me, the CUBS have done much worse over the years. Frank Luchessi, Preston Gomez, Charlie Metro...... there's no point in going on.

If you think that replacing Dusty Baker is the answer, you're quite delusional. Even the ghost of John McGraw couldn't make chicken salad out of chicken s**t !!!

I would say, if you think keeping Dusty Baker is the answer, you're twice as delusional.

Replacing Dusty is one of many answers. He's the wrong manager for the wrong team. I said it before he was hired and I haven't seen anything resembling evidence to the contrary.

The only way the Cubs win w/ Baker is if the Trib gives him a $150 million budget.

2 1/2 years is enough of this guy. You could give 75% of the members on this board a $100 million payroll and they could probably go 40-42. 90% could probably figure out you don't bat Neifi and Patterson before the NL's 1st half MVP.

I agree wholeheartedly. Is there any way we can trade managers with San Fran? Dusty will have the veteran team he longs for and Felipe can have a team worth managing (oh, and if they want to throw Moises in because he wants to finish his career with Daddy, I'd be cool with that.)

Yeah, Felipe Alou is the answer. If you believe that, then say good-bye to Michael Barrett and hello to Henry Blanco (maybe not a bad idea if you look at Barrett's last fifty at-bats). Remember, or maybe you don't, that Alou said that Barrett would never catch in the major leagues. Then he moved him to third base.

The main question is which is the real team? Is it the one that ran off seven wins in a row or the one trying to avoid its second straight seven loss slide?

Ooo, that's right. Hmm, maybe we can disguise Barrett so Felipe doesn't realize it's him?

Alou is not the answer for this team at all.

I don't know who is, but it's not Alou.

Felipe Alou, I think, is one of the most overrated managers in the game.

Not as overrated as Baker... even now, when everyone says he's terrible ;)

I think that's the point - managing a baseball team isn't particularly hard (as compared to say basketball or football), and most people would have done the same. If you want to have impact on the team, look for some outfield help, give Cedeno a shot, and pray for the arms of Prior, Wood, Z, Maddux, and Williams.

Just look at this lineup he has for tonight:

N. Perez SS 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .269

J. Macias 2B 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .264

T. Walker 1B 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .288

A. Ramirez 3B 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .304

T. Hollandsworth LF 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .283

J. Burnitz RF 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .276

M. Barrett C 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .257

C. Patterson CF 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .232

M. Prior P 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .222

That's right. He has two players with OBP's under .300 hitting 1 and 2 in the lineup. He is an idiot, plain and simple, or he is trying very hard to get fired.

Question: Does anyone think a guy who has coached in the college ranks could be a good manager in the major leagues? You see it happen on occasion in basketball and football but you never see it happen in MLB, why is that?

Sweet lord. GOD. He is such an idiot. WHY IN THE HELL is Macias playing over Hairston, and WHY IN THE HELL is Neifi playing over cedeno. GOOD LORD.

Baseball never gives anyone a chance. Why do you think they recycle the same failures over and over.

Good question. Perhaps too much "good ol boy network." Howard Cossell may blame it on the JOCKTOCRACY OF PROFESSIONAL MANAGEMENT.

I think it is pretty clear that Dusty does not like Hairston. Maybe his dad did something to Baker. I cannot understand it at all.

Replacing Dusty is one of many answers. He's the wrong manager for the wrong team. I said it before he was hired and I haven't seen anything resembling evidence to the contrary.

Let's see here, the team hits .213 with men on 3rd and less than 2 outs, yep it's the manager. This is becoming silly.

He is setting them up for failure. Do you want to know why the team hits so low? Because baker continues to put the guys that suck it up out there. Look at the lineup he was going to run out there tonight. Macias batting over Hairston? Neifi leading off? You wonder why our offense is so horrid.

That doesn't answer why they hit .213 with a man on 3rd less than 2 outs. blame the players. the next worst team in that situation hits . 240.

Sure it does. July 5th runners vs the braves runners on 1-3, 1 out Dusty pinch hints jose who ends up striking out. I understand that this is just one example but pinch hitting jose macis in any sittuation with hariston, Dubois, Cedeno, barret hell even zambrano on the bench is simply bad managing.

Goony, I've restored the complete text of my original post. If you think that I'm advocating keeping Dusty Baker.... please quote my post again and highlight where I said, implied, or even infered that we should keep Baker.

The thesis of the original post, and the title of this thread, is that firing Baker is the answer. I am merely trying to point out that when you replace Baker with [fill in the name of the world's best baseball manager here], the 2005 Chicago Cubs are NOT a contender.

Now, if you really think I'm delusional..... then simply tell me what manager can take this team to the playoffs, and I will gladly retract all.

Just a minor point..... Hairston was already in the game at that time.
