they are gonna be 2 games under .500 it's not over but there needs to a shake up..

I have always jumped on people who make those "season over" remarks, but we're nearing that point.

Whoa.

Now I know it's getting bad. I was going to give it until a couple weeks after the break before giving up completely.

it doesn't help when were falling flat on our faces against the team that is leading the WC race with some of their big players missing and a team that is filled with rookies. I consider myself an optimist as well and I'm losing hope :(

I think Hendry is too much of a Dusty a$$ kisser to can him..

The Trib is spending alot of money for this crap, and I doubt they are too happy. I'll go out on a limb and say that if the Cubs win less than 2 of the remaining games before the ASB, Dusty gets the axe.

Based on the teams performance & the decisions being made by Dusty, boy I hope your right! Maybe the Cubs can salvage some of this season. Is there another Jack McKeon type manager out there?

I never thought I'd see you write something like this TrueBlue. You know things are going bad when even the most optimistic fans are calling for Dusty's head. He needs to go already.

Early in the season, I wasn't ready to completely right Dusty off, b/c of a few questionable decisions. I was willing to give him some time & the benefit of the doubt & remain optimistic that he could get the job done. Boy have I been wrong. It bothered me that some posters were so pessimistic so early in the season towards Dusty & JH. Bashing management or other Cubs players is something I felt Trolls do. Pessimism isn't something I like to pertake in. However, now I have changed my mind & realize Dusty getting the axe sooner than leter would be beneficial to the future of this orginization. I'm an optimist @ heart like most true Cub fans, but Dusty has driven me to the brink & I have had enough!

Answer me this: Wasn't the Cubs bench in 03' a little more reliable than 04' or 05'? I know the Cubs had the likes of: Goodwin,Harris,Simon,Martinez & a platoon situation of Choi & Karros. Am I missing anyone? Thoughts??

I've never seen more stupidity by one person that I see daily with Dusty Baker. And the fact that seemingly the whole world sees the stupid mistakes that Dusty makes every day, but yet he is too stubborn to change his ways is just scary. I have a feeling he's going to be on his way out in the next few weeks. Or at least I hope so.

The thing about our bench this year is that it really isn't as bad as it's shown. The problem is is Dusty decides to use Macias or E. Wilson instead of Dubois or Hairston in key situations just because they are more "experienced". Wilson had no right being on this team, but Macias isn't that bad if he was used properly. The fact that Hairston and Dubois still ride the pine while Macias, Wilson, and even Neifi early on in the season were used in critical situations is just another reason why Dusty needs to go immediately.

Most on this board will disagree with me, but I'm actually fine with Macias as the 25th player on this team & the last option off the bench. During ST, I would have prefered Hansen b/c I thought he was as good of a PH you could have on your bench as there was available out there. I don't think Macias is as bad as some here say he is, but I don't think he's as good as JH & Baker make him out to be, either.

Amen, Serena.

Chill on the shooting people scenario, plz.

I just don't think there's a trade out there than can really fix the Cubs. Unless it's trading Dusty somewhere.

Regarding the bench, I was one of many, maaaany posters to complain that we had too much redundancy in our bench players, ie, Perez AND Macias and Hairston, and then Wilson. That falls on Hendry. He did a poor job of constructing the bench.

I'm not sure who's decision it is to carry an extra pitcher, but you saw tonight why you don't want to do that. In a bases-loaded situation that might be your last, best chance to get back in the game, you saw Jose Macias. If you aren't carrying the extra arm, you can throw Ben Grieve up there, a LH bat with power and patience. That's probably both Dusty and Hendry's fault.

For some reason Hendry traded for Hairston, but Dusty won't/can't play him. Dusty seems to hate the guy. That's Dusty's fault.

Hendry called up Cedeno, but Dusty won't sit Perez while he's free falling back to his career norms. Dusty's fault.

The lineup in general has been usually awful-partly because of the lack of positional depth created by carrying at one point 4 utility IF's, but mostly because of the total failure of the 1-2 spots in the order, and the lack of urgency taken in fixing the problem. 95% Dusty.

Overall, the team as constructed at the start of the season had the chance to win the Wild Card had it been healthy. However, we did not have the quality of depth, nor do we have a manager who is able to make the proper decisions to overcome this sort of adversity. As we stand today, about to fall 2 under and even with the Astros, we do not stand a legitamite chance to make the playoffs. We simply do not have the talent needed to sustain a winning streak, or even sustain a winning month.

I'll repeat that: The Cubs, as currently constructed, are not a playoff contender. Unless the organization does something immediately to change either the fundemental philosiphies of the club on a daily level, or until our general manager replaces about half of our current positional players, we will struggle to play .500 ball.

I'm not going to stop watching, or stop hoping, but the situation is about as hopeless as I've felt in 3 years of watching this team.

I think you're probably right, but then again, I can't think of a manager that we could call in at this point to right the ship. Even if Dusty made perfect decisions, are we good enough?

Having enough baseball sense to know or figure out Patterson and Perez at the top of the order is going to lend itself to prolonged offensive slumps is far from a perfect decision.

What's the chance of MacPhail just coming in & telling both Dusty & Jim to take a hike? Hopefully, MacPhail & the tribune co. just puts the heat on JH to fire Dusty.

Hendry has made some good trades, but I don't know what is up with him with Dusty. Dusty has to be blackmailing him somehow... that's about the only way I can see this crap going on for as long as it has.

Hendry has to support his guy. Dusty was his hire. Hendry's a bit too stand-up to just ditch Baker.

I was just flipping through the channels a few moments ago, and Dan Plesac was explaining why he didn't think it would be a good idea for the Cubs to lose the rest of the games before the All-Star break.

I apologize; I'm as frustrated as Ron Santo was tonight, Baker' lack of baseball common sense is beyond comprehension.

I agree with you. While I don't like Macias very much, I am still interested to see where he rates as far as 25th men. He only has 70 AB's this year so it is hardly like Dusty is giving him tons of playing time. Also, he is one of the few if not the only guy on the bench that rarely strikes out and his defense is better than adequate at a few positions. I think he just makes an easy target.

It should. I dont think we'll win and I think not wasting the bullpen would be good.

It still says "rain delay" on comcast.

I don't know why I checked.

BTW, Macias is also overpayed $825K, IIRC.

for interim, i'd think they'd go with Rothschild, but i sure wouldn't mind Brenly as the manager down the line. At least he seems like a guy that would actually have Hairston and Walker 1-2 in the lineup every day.
