Strike 1 inside, strike 3 outside. It's hard to understand why the umps seemingly single out Patterson (mostly inside corner) and Lee (low strikes) to give the worst strike zones to on this team.

Because one is 5'7" and the other 6'6"? It's their fault they're not 6'!

Well Lee's is understandable, but Corey's height shouldn't have an impact on the inside corner. All a pitcher has to do to get an easy strike three called on Patterson is throw a bad 2-seam fastball 2 inchches inside. Who knows what effect it has on Corey when he has a good grasp of the strike zone and earns a walk and yet isn't rewarded.

Corey with 3 more strike outs today... will our idiotic manager get him out of the lineup after today? We wont contend with him.

Oh we can more than contend with Patterson. But Dusty right now is not putting Patterson in a position to even succeed. Dusty should sit him for a few games. Let him catch his breath. And then exclusivly bat him in the 7th hole. Don't put the pressure of leading off on him and don't try to turn him into something he is not.

I think it's at the point where Corey just isn't going to be successful in Chicago. He's the new LaTroy Hawkins.

For this team to get better we need a lead-off hitter. Two possible guys available are Kotsay and Lawton.

I think it's a matter of time before Corey is gone. I don't see too many signs that he'll turn it around.

I agree. Everyone is fed up with him, including me.

Getting rid of 30+ year old reliever who had a bad couple of years is different than getting rid of a 25 year old CF who as recently as last year had stretches of brilliance. Put Corey in a low presse part of the lineup and stop trying to turn him into Lou Brock. I think he can be an above average player (maybe not a star but well worth having around) for us but not if Dusty, the media and the fans keep trying to play with the kid's head.

His play is unacceptable it's that simple. If you ask me, he deserves to get booed.

Eh, I was being facetious.

Patterson hasn't been getting the benefit of the doubt on pitch calls at all this year, which hasn't helped him much. Based on the last two years, umps seem to really struggle with determining what is Derrek's strike zone.

I will boo a guy who doesn't try on a play or who is a massive jerk in public.

If I thought Corey was not trying his hardest or was a Bonds level jerk I would be fine with booing him. But at this point booing is just counter productive.

Booing him also doesn't help him break out of it. He knows he's played bad, all booing does is to help continue his poor play and drop his trade value. Not every player the fans boo out of town can net Jerome Williams and David Aardsma.

Most importantly, my DirectTV is working again and I'm watching the Cubs for the first time in over a week!!! :D \:D/

What was the problem?

I bet you if he laid off the high or outside pitches people would stop booing.

I doubt it. At this point, I bet Corey could go 4 for 5 with a cycle, make a few wonderful defensive plays and strike out in his last AB and get booed unmercifully.

Like he did in the previous AB only to get booed after being called out on strikes on a 3-2 pitch that was outside?

Booing in this situation is kinda like putting on a dress and running into a brick wall at full speed to get rid of a headache. Sure you have the right to do it, but is it really going to help?

Apparently the hard drive was fried. We got a new hard drive yesterday, and I was only able to properly install it now (the tech support folks over the phone at DirectTV aren't that competent :x).

And maybe I was better off not watching the Cubs. :|

I agree. If nothing else the Cubs fans should want to try everything they can to get Corey going so he at least has some trade value.

Of all the regulars on the team, Corey is hitting the worst. He's not improved any since the start of the year. I've always been a big supporter of Corey, but I can't do it with any integrity any longer.

He's not helping the team and he's hurting us as much as anyone else on the team. If we can make an improvement in CF, then that's an area of weakness we should look to upgrade.

We have three areas in which we can seek improvement: CF, LF, and SS. I don't think we'll find anything at SS, so we should look at left or center. If that means Corey goes to the bench or is moved in a trade, so be it.

To contend this year, we can't have a CF htting .240 and getting on base at a 280 clip.

I was using a bit of hyperbole, but I wouldn't put it past the Wrigley faithful.

The other day, he made the game-saving defensive double play and got cheered. He came up in the bottom of the inning, struck out (on what seemed like a really questionable pitch) and got booed.

And to think he's actually below .240 now.

Hendry needs to make a move now, he can't wait for the 31st like last year and hope something works out. It's looking highly likely that this team will dip below .500 before the all-star break. This team needs to be shaken up badly
