Rumor: Michael Cerami - Cubs & Evan Phillips "something brewing"

I can't tell if this is simply writing up the rumor from the Athletic, or if this is also him +1'ing it and confirming the interest?

Either way Philips would be fun, assuming it's a 1+1 deal.  Very much not a signing you make when money is super tight though...

Clicking the article he does mention the Athletic, but also seems to be alluding to a connection to his previous source in the BP? Hard to fully tell.

I almost feel we are the point where teams are actively searching for pitchers who won't be ready until mid-season ensuring rested arms for the back half.  The Jays benefitted greatly from Bieber, Scherzer and Yesavage (to a lesser extent)  That trio started 12 of 18 post season games; as opposed to 27 of 162 in the regular season.

Its a battle of asset accumulation and attrition

Great point.  It also would seem cheaper than trading for a SP at the deadline but would effectively be the same.
