I'm building it. Let the kid play. Who's on it with me?

Can he play outfield? Supposedly left??

I would hop on, but I'm too busy trying to get my Jason Dubois BandWGN out of the ditch.

Just leave it man. The WGN is dead. It already has an orange sticker on it. The wrecker is on the way.

I'm in!!!

I'm on. I don't think Dusty is, though.

Although...

A quote from that article:

Baker doesn't expect Cedeno to be in the lineup on a regular basis, but will play him when he feels Perez needs a break. Perez showed a bit of wear and tear in the Cubs' last series against the White Sox, going 1-for-12 in three starts.

So basically Cedeno will be lucky if he gets 1-2 starts a week. What a waste. :wall:

This isn't a good move if all we are doing is putting Cedeno on the bench. He would be better served getting the playing time in Iowa. The move is very confusing unless Cedeno does in deed get some starts.

Like someone said in the Transactions thread, I think Cedeno will eventually supplant Neifi as the starter, but Dusty always gives the veteran every chance to try and get back on track rather than give the job to the younger player. It's just how Dusty handles these types of situations, unfortunately. I think it'll be similar to the Hollandsworth/Dubois situation we had this season...hopefully the younger player hangs on to the job in this case.

From June 6-28 Neifi is 12 for 80 with 1 walk. I say it's time to give Ronny at least half the starts. Dubois lost his starting job after 3 weeks, so Neifi should too, especially since we all know we are seeing the real Neifi now.

It isn't like Neifi is the 2nd coming of Ernie Banks or anything- he's had some good streaks and had some awful ones and truth be told, his career numbers aren't all the great.

I understand Dusty wanting to "respect" the veteran by giving him the chance to catch fire again, but as a manager it's your job to put the players onto the field who have the best chance to get you TEAM wins.

Imho, you know what you're gonna get from Neifi for the most part and Cedeno is an unknown quantity at the big league level. If Neifi were an All Star it would be one thing, but Cedeno has a much higher ceiling to me than Neifi does.

There's no reason in the world that Ronny shouldn't at the very least split the time with Neifi at SS - otherwise as others have said, what the hell's the point of bringing him up to sit him on the bench and give him the occassional pinch hit.

is it too late to get on?

No, but its worthless to get on. Dusty makes it park in the McDonald's across the street and insists everyone on board keep quiet until the game is over.

"He's more of a true shortstop, a backup that can give Neifi a rest," manager Dusty Baker said. "Neifi is my shortsop, and there's a good chance Cedeno could be the shortstop of the future."

Based on this I wouldn't expect Cedeno to get more than an occasional start vs. lefties. I'm guessing Dusty blames Neifi's struggles on fatigue, and Cedeno's just here to help Neifi be the best Neifi that he can be. He'd be better off in Iowa.

From that article's sister effort in the Sun-Times:

Link

Perez has appeared to be worn down a little lately, and the increasingly hot days will take their toll on him. That should lead to more starts for Cedeno
.

While its encouraging for one source to suggest Cedeno will get more playing time, its upsetting that a reputtable news source would so obviously ignore the historic fact that Neifi is conditioned fine for the hot weather.
