This is absolutely neither here nor there but do you think if the front office were aware of the offensive step forwards that PCA, Suzuki and Busch seem to have taken to this point they still would have made the trade for Tucker?

Yes, but hindsight is 20/20. Tucker is among a handful of the best at his position. I think a better question, if they fail to re-sign him (if it happens), is, do you think the trade was worth it if you knew you weren't going to be able to re-sign him?

A lot depends on how far they go in the playoffs, if they make it.

I don't think so. If they would have traded away someone like Brown or Horton or whatever, you could talk me into them maybe rethinking it with the knowledge that the rest of the offense would step up and they could hold onto the pitching. But this was offense for offense, I think they wanted the game changing bat over another 3ish fWAR guy.

Not really sure that is a BETTER question.  As you say if they Win the World Series then it was absolutely worth it - if they fail to make the playoffs and he signs else where then its very bad.  It's likely to be somewhere in between.  If they do extend then it's probably worth it regardless of the current years outcome.  I think that's been the case since the trade was made.  Maybe a better/more provocative question is would Cubs have been a better team?

Sure would suck if Jed half assing the talent acquisition portion of the job bit everybody else in the ass, again.

It’s beginning to suck
