Really the novel concept is just playing bad baseball teams. Not having to get through Carroll/Marte or Ohtani/Betts at the top of the order every time makes it easier to prevent runs, who knew.

The pirates pitching isnt too bad, not facing elite hitters isnt making Cubs bats better… its moving the scrubs to the bottom of the order

Why did Padres give up on this guy ?

Because they got Estrada when the Cubs gave up on him, and 7 other pen arms who are better.

Even then his numbers weren't anything special. He seems like a decent middle bullpen type that you need but shouldn't count on for more than games like this.

You got that in 2 innings of mob up duty? Would you have said the same thing had the long ball hit down the left field line been fair and a 2 run homer? Would you still think he is decent if next time out he gives up a run? This is what is crazy about the pen. When they do well everyone loves the guy. Then a bad outing and he is a bum.

Palencia shoutout.  Seems like 4 or 5 outings in a row where he's come in and delivered.  Not sure how sustainable it'll be given his previous struggles with consistency, but he has the stuff to make it at this level.  Hopefully we are starting to see it.

Did Shota leave with cramps or just get bored?

He ate a Primani brothers sandwich pregame.  Then had to take the Browns to the Super Bowl.
