It's very dumb.  On top of it you're probably not even improving the offense that much if you trade him.  Of guys with at least 400 at bats this year listed as being primary 2B, Hoerner is 10th on offense.  BUT, five of the guys ahead of him are only ahead by a little bit (six points of wRC+ separate Nico at #10 and Brendan Donavan at #5).

The top 4 are Ketel Marte, Jordan Westburg, Jose Altuve and Brandon Lowe.  Lowe, is probably pretty available but he's A) made of glass and B) a worse player than Hoerner on the whole even when he's on the field.

Hoerner is by far my favorite player on this team.  It sounds old-fashioned, but he is a true professional in all aspects of the game.  It's a shame Swanson's contract is too terrible to trade, because moving Hoerner to SS and having him and PCA at the top of the lineup could really be interesting.

Dansby is the new Heyward.  $40 million down and $138 million to go.

Swanson is at 4.1 war this year and was 4.9 last year. Heyward's best with the cubs was 2.3

I don't get how you love hoerner but hate swanson

Hopefully next year the Cubs can fail upwards like Detroit. Imagine selling at the deadline, including your best pitcher, being 8 games under .500 in early August, 10 games back in the wildcard race and still making the postseason. Wtf. 😂

Baseball reference has him at 3.6 this year and OPS+ of 95.  I guess I should have compared the two contracts rather than the players.

I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anyone’s argument. SS has a positional bias in calculating WAR. His number is defense heavy but inflated by the bias. He’s not going to get any better but he’s still a good defender. There is a reason why the Braves let him go. On the right team he’s an excellent part.

The absolute stupidest argument in the world

Said in a less Tom way, Dansby is a very good player by all conceivable measures and thinking lesser of him because he signed the contract offered to him is a terrible position to take.
