I didn't hear the explanation for this being a bullpen game.  Is it safe to assume this pushes all the starters back a day, meaning Taillon will go Friday and Hendricks will get his last start on Saturday?  I'm hoping that is the case so that I can attend the (likely) final Hendricks start in  Cubs uniform.

I know the whole, respect the game angle - but I think the Cubs should have fun with the next handful of games and bring guys up for a game or two who had a good season in AAA.

I think they want to keep the extra rest of a 6 man rotation, and with Wicks' injury this is how they make it work.  So yeah I'd guess everyone stays on schedule from here.

Apparently Counsell squashed the idea of of Caissie or any of the other hitter prospects coming up with the minor league season over.  Not unreasonable, I assume they don't want to burn the 40 man spot early just to get him like two starts, but definitely annoying.

I saw that too. I try to watch or listen to most every game. Trying to do that for the rest of the season is a response effort I'm not willing to make.

Probably more to do with integrity. The Cubs are out and there's no chance to being a spoiler, but there could be some implications in the playoffs for the Phillies, Dodgers, and Yankees in this series. The Phillies are 1 game behind the Dodgers for the best record in baseball and tied with the Yankees. Home field in the playoffs is potentially at stake.

The Cubs are going bullpen vs. Aaron Nola.

Because Wicks got injured, not because they are calling up rookies to throw a AAA team on the field in the last week.

Hollowell is a fun little sidearmer the team added on waivers last month.  He's been dominant at Iowa in SSS since coming over

I don't like this new rule of only 2 additional callups in September , I get not to have a bunch of callups so games stay competitive  but I think they should increase it to 5, so 31 man roster.

Give teams that are out of it a chance to get a look at a couple of their top young guys at the Major League level.

Is he Hoyer first new cheap addition for the bullpen next season? 🙄

They could just put Happ on IL,  they don't need to see Tauchman anymore, so it would only make sense to give these last 6 games to Caissie.

It’s the 40 man spot that’s the concern. I’m not sure what the 40 man crunch looks like this year but there are usually tough decisions made every year that expose talented prospects to the Rule 5 draft. Assuming they don’t want to put Caissie on the 40 man to call him up for a few games and then have 1 less spot to protect someone else over the winter.

and for the person that suggested we go back to having more than 2 call ups when rosters expand, it’s the same issue. The call ups always had to be on the 40 man roster so you’d have the same issues.

Timely reminder that these days you have players missing half the year for a blister on the finger and back in the day there was literally a player nicknamed Three Finger Brown in the Hall of Fame. 😂

Caissie is rule 5 eligible, and the 40 man is mucked up with a ton of scrubs
