Wicks back on the IL.  Yikes, what a disaster of a season for him.

Yeah, pitching health has been ass all year.

With that HR, Swanson is now tied with Freddie Freeman at 26th in fWAR among position players.

Gotta love the September surge against teams out of race to get your hitting numbers up to respectable 😅

if the roster was good we'd be talking about how he's a clutch player during the most important time of the season

Well, he's been hitting since 7/22 and Williams has been an excellent pitcher all year.

I know your point is that Swanson has value but this is so silly, like are supposed to think teams are considering Freeman and Swanson are on equal footing? I think 29 other teams would take Freeman over Swanson, all value isnt equal, especially when comparing a 1B to a SS.

They were FA one offseason apart and Swanson got a higher AAV by a couple million, so seems pretty similar in the eyes of the market to me.

Is he saying that in terms of production this year they are on 'equal footing'? Yes, that's what that statistic measures.

Am I saying that I would take Swanson's rest of career production over Freeman's rest of career production? Also yes.

So 79-75 with 8 games left....

3-5 to finish over .500 for the 2nd year in a row

4-4 to match last year's 83-79 record

5-3 to beat last year's record which would have tied them for a playoff spot last season

6-2 to have a record that would have guaranteed them a playoff spot last season

7-1 is the minimum record needed to make the playoffs if the Mets don't win a game the rest of the season and the Braves only win 1 more game. (yes this is in complete jest no one except Marquee expects them to make the playoffs)

Also, all this is a terrible disappointment as a whole.

This will be difficult since the Mets and Braves play each other 3 times.

so, do we think Seiya's wrist is broken after getting hit by that throw? I know he didn't come out of the game (at least not right away, maybe I missed him going out before his next AB) but it's not like the Cubs training staff has a sterling record to fall back on...

Pfft.  You and your "advanced" analytics.  I'm trusting the standings math that says we haven't been eliminated!

All I know is that the Cubs "tragic number" is apparently 2 going into today so any combo of Cubs losses and Mets wins eliminates us.
