Cristian Hernández is 1/1 with a double (12), 3 walks and 3 SBs (26). OPS up to .850.

If he figured "it" out, that would be a huge boost to the Cubs.

That he's being carried by a .404 babip worries me, but then again babips always run really high in the minors and he has greatly increased his BB% while greatly decreasing his K%. So while there is significant change there, I'm not ready to proclaim that he's completely regained all his lost shine just yet.

He's way more shiny than last year at this time, though. The babip is high, but he's third in the entire carolina league in wRC+ while playing at one of the hardest pitching parks in all of baseball.

For sure. He was 1 bad season from being a washout in most eyes. I'm just not ready to jump on the hype that surrounded him when he was initially signed just yet. With that said, I think it could be argued that he belongs back in the top 10 at this point and certainly in the top 15.

Yeah, I'm not ready to jump back into ARod comps yet. But I'm really happy with the progress this year. The plate discipline gains have been unreal, and the speed he's showing is a really unexpected bonus.

Just on the BABIP point, in the lower levels especially that's way more a function of skill than it is of luck.  A guy who is simply better than the level of competition is gonna run a high BABIP, so unless that's driven by an unsustainable K rate or environment-driven HR totals(neither in Hernandez's case) having a high BABIP is a good thing.

This

If I had a complaint about Hernandez’s breakout it’s the insane GB%. He’s got the frame and such to get stronger and make adjustments, hopefully this is just a first breakout

If he hiit a shitload of FB right now he'd probably be hitting 240
