If I'm the union, I'm calling every union rep to try to get the players on board to pay a % for a huge strike fund or at least tell them to set money aside because they are going to war in a few years.

Wasn't that the plan last time?

When does the Dodgers’ ridiculous, never-repeatable tv deal expire? Until then the answer is Dodgers. As in “the Dodgers will sign all these free agents.”

Jed Hoyer recently invented a thing called intelligent spending.  Nobody else has ever thought like this.  It's amazing.  He's amazing.  Before this, teams just threw money around without thinking.

Unfortunately, it means that nobody signs FA anymore.

Oh well, chalk it up to progress!

This sums it up nicely. Hope the players are prepared to strike a long time the next CBA. These owners all suck. Collusion all over again.

The Giants currently forecast to begin the season with Webb and Ross Stripling in the rotation along with young pitchers Kyle Harrison, Keaton Winn, and Tristan Beck. Sean Hjelle and Kai-Wei Teng are current depth options on the 40-man roster.

Critically, Zaidi didn’t sound eager to return to the free-agent market to supplement that group. If anything, he sketched out a highly flexible pitching plan that might echo what the Giants did this past season.

Now the Giants have room to purchase a new appliance that manager Bob Melvin would find more useful. Like a certain Gold Glove third baseman who slices and dices and juliennes with the best of them. No, it isn’t in Zaidi’s interests to characterize the Giants as dead-set on signing Matt Chapman — there’s never a need to give more leverage than necessary to a Scott Boras client — but it seems like such an eventuality at this point that when Zaidi mentions other possibilities, it almost seems like misdirection.

“We like the group that we have and I think we can certainly go into the season with it, but one of the areas of need is probably upgrading our infield defense,” Zaidi said. “It’s always possible there’s a trade that lines up that way. But as it stands now, we like our outfield group. We’d be fine going into the year with it. We frankly still could add somebody to that mix with Mitch being traded today. Lots of things still on the table there. The most direct answer I can give it is does mean our outfield is set.”

Well if we take it the Giants are out on any of the top pitchers and Bellinger, that is positive news for the Cubs. Who is left for any of the pitchers and Bellinger. Field is shrinking.

On the pitching front the Yankees are 100% going to pull down Snell or Montgomery.  The Rangers sound pretty heavy on Montgomery too.  So there are roads to Jed being left holding the bag, e.g. Imanaga to the Angels, Montgomery back to Texas, and Snell to NYY.

On the position player side though?  Jed's set up incredibly well.  Even if he misses on Bellinger there’s still a ton left on the market.  That said I'd be shocked at this point if he misses on Bellinger.  Boras would have to work some magic where the Nats want him to be their modern day Jayson Weth or something random like that.

As usual, the owners will spend millions on media, and most fans will be convinced they aren't getting baseball because of the "greedy athletes".

Stroman???? Or do they go Manaea or Paxton? Not inspiring. Maybe they go with a trade for that pitcher.
As for position players who else would you want? If they got Bellinger do they still get Hoskins? If/when PCA makes the team that becomes tricky. If someone in that group is the DH Morel has to be playing 3rd. While I haven’t ruled that out, I feel most have. And I am not sure they want to dedicate 4 or 5 years to Chapman at 3rd.
Again, if Morel could play 3rd you can add JD, Solar and Justin Turner as possible signings.

Rcal????

Do you not recall the great Lou Boudreau saying to Vince " The batted ball always finds the bad glove on the infield" ?

Cmon Rcal, try not to mention thirdbase and Morel in the same post ever again, for the love of sweet baby Jesus?
