No, I don’t remember this. When was Harper begging to play for the Cubs? His agent may have been begging the Cubs to get in the bidding for Harper. But I never had this idea Harper wanted to play for the Cubs any more than any other team. He was always going to take a deal from whatever team have him the best deal, period.

I think the main thing was him and KBs relationship and I don’t think it was a huge consideration, just a positive for the Cubs. Naming his dog Wrigley was just trolling I’m sure. I don’t think he was begging to go to the Cubs but I think they were one of a handful of teams he was targeting when he was getting ready for free agency. He absolutely would have came if we gave him a reasonable offer. He had to settle for a contract that gave him years over AAV basically in spring training.  Cubs (and other teams) had a full offseason to swoop in and offer 8/$240 but we were broke

I agree. I don't really like a division winner having to play in the Wild Card round, but I don't think we're ever going back. Leagues never decrease the number of playoff teams. It only goes up.

I thought I would like the 3 game series as opposed to the one-and-done, but after seeing the new format in action I think we have lost a lot of excitement from the one-and-done but also from the regular season tiebreaker scenarios.

Yep, I was one of the rare people who hated the 1 game playoff concept but I prefer that over the best of 3.

If they insist on keeping 6 teams, how about they steal a concept from those old multi team tiebreakers that never actually happened:

Division winners advance to LDS. The Wild Card team is determined by a 2 game tournament.  Using this years 3 NL wild cards, it would look like this:

Day 1:  Diamondbacks (WC3) at Marlins (WC2)

Day 2: Phillies (WC1) at winner of day 1.

if that causes logistical problems just make WC1 the home team in game 2.  You play the games Monday and Tuesday, LDS starts Thursday.

Don't worry guys, the 12 team playoffs won't last much longer. Soon enough, MLB is going to add 2 more teams, go to 8 divisions of 4 teams and have a 16 team playoff.

And then you have the Cubs coming along after not making a postseason in 7 years, making the NLCS in 2015 and then the World Series the following year. Astros, Dodgers and Braves needed years to climb the mountain. The Cubs just jumped the queue and did it lol.

Astros are a bad example. Made the playoffs in 2015, winning the WC game before losing in the ALDS, missed in 2016 and won the title in 2017.

Only sport I know where a team loses a postseason series and then just sit there in the dugout watching the other teams celebrations. Get out of there and into the locker rooms.

Not a lot of sports have dugouts.

Yet another round where not a single series goes the distance, and now another 2 day gap without any games. These playoffs have really sucked.

I think the LCS will be chalk winning where these first two rounds were full of upsets and we will have a rematch of last year's  World Series but this time Philly wins it.

16 team playoff would be painful. Would love it just being the 8 division winners, would settle for a 12 team/old NFL playoff model.

I think when they go to 4 team divisions and 4 divisions in each league the format should be the top 2 division winners get byes. The other two play the two wild card teams. But they play one day. The division winner only has to win 2 game. The wild card team would have to win a doubleheader that one day. If the division winner wins the first game it is over.
