Canario benching is definitely gonna happen tomorrow. Then he'll be traded for a rental reliever to the Royals and then promptly hit 40 bombs for them. Velazquez and Soler being his predecessors.

Is there a part of David Ross who didn't want Canario to do this tonight because it makes him look like an idiot?

Yes, there absolutely is.

Hey the last time the Cubs had a bad stretch of play, it ended when we crushed the Nationals in that one game and kicked off the hottest month of our season where the offense pretty much never slumped

Back to Canario...

I know he still has holes in his swing. I know he is going to strike out a lot. I know he isn't going to play every day right now

But man he just looks dangerous at the plate. With all the injuries right now, if it's a choice between him or Patrick Wisdom in the lineup, I would pencil Canario in every time.

This really was a "must-win" with Miami winning and Arizona leading. Cincy losing helps, but this is all too close

I was thinking today, baseball is a strange sport with strange things happening all the time but I think the Cubs would need a 2 game lead after this homestand for me to feel ok about their chances.  They will end the night 0.5 games up.  5 more to go.

Velasquez really has 14 HR in 130 at bats??? Yikes!  Seriously, good for him though. It wasn't going to happen here.

He seems similar to Morel at the plate.  Big swing, big power, but pulls off everything so lots of K's and lame ability to hit for AVG.  Both of them plus Wisdom seem to have fallen in love with their power and so sell out on every swing.  Maybe they try a 2-strike approach like Bellinger.  Morel isn't going to get many fastballs to drive with 2 strikes anyways.

Hope that Canario Grand slam lights a fire under these guys and gets this game gets them their confidence back. Moments like that can definitely be a mood booster for the clubhouse.
