This is a gentle reminder to posters that will probably be made into a separate announcement before long.

Please remember the following:

--the same language standards are in effect in game threads as in the other forums

--the same site policies about not attacking other posters are in effect in game threads as in the other forums

--if you are not interested in posting about the game, you probably shouldn't be posting in the game thread. :idea: Please respect requests from other posters who are posting about the game to move off-topic discussions elsewhere.

--if you are a poster asking that a topic or discussion be moved, please do so courteously. Flying into a posting rage will pretty much guarantee that all game discussion will be put on hold.

--the game threads are not substitutes for rants or general discussions. If you feel the need to vent about an individual player/manager/team/etc for multiple posts that go beyond game incidents and into the individual's past and future lives, take it to the appropriate venue. Such ongoing ranting tends to be more fascinating to the ranter than to the reader.

--if there is an ongoing problem with a poster and/or with inappropriate language in a game thread, please contact one of the online mods via PM.

Thanks! :D

2005 All Star Game Thread Starter

I've been remiss in not naming the All-Star Game Thread Starter earlier.

UMFan83 gets the call to start the 2005 All-Star game thread.

Among his many personal and game thread accomplishments are the following:

--his 4-1 win-loss record puts him among the leaders in wins and winning percentage;

--his 3-game game thread sweep of the Dodgers kicked off a remarkable west coast road swing for the Cubs. It was the first game thread starter sweep of the season and -- until recently -- the only one.

--his winning streak included such timeless classics as

Maddux's 308th win;

Z's 8-inning-one-hit-no-Decision Cubs 10-inning 2-1 win over the Dodgers;

Koronka's debut; and

Rusch mowing down the Padres in a complete game victory in which DLEE recorded his 1,000th career hit.

--his courage and perseverance in striving to excel as a game thread starter despite the pain he's endured due to his abysmal luck in ever seeing the Cubs win in person is a heartwarming tale of hope that should inspire us all.

Other Game Thread Starter All-Stars include:

CTCubsFan, 5-4

Treebeard, 4-1

Thrivein05, 4-1

Outshined_One, 3-1

Roast, 3-1 (and making a mid-season run)

The all-star game thread honorary coach and mentor is

BHogg, 1-2

CONGRATS! =D> :cheers:

That would fall under the smart category, imo.

Intelligence: a known Dusty Baker detriment :D

I decided not to run with the negativity thing for my impending winning streak. With an offense like this team has, you can only take it so far before they live up to every joking expectation. I would have done a similar thing with positivity, but I probably would have made myself and plenty of others around here puke. Plus, negativity comes a lot more naturally with this team.
