My excitement for baseball is always abated by actually watching spring training games. At some point I'll start tuning in but the first couple of weeks with regulars being rotated out after two innings is particularly painful to watch.

Counterpoint: great time to get a glimpse at some of the organizations "rising stars" and lesser-knowns.

Oh, absolutely, I'm just so scattershot as a human being that I end up flipping between games because it's frustrating to watch four NRIs bat in hopes of seeing one legit prospect so I miss pretty much everything interesting.

But the upside is that I know a fair amount about every team!

That's exactly why I like to watch.

Meh, its hard (at least for me) to parse through what is relevant and what is not relevant when it comes to Spring Training performances. Because of that I really don't care to watch spring training at all. I check back in this thread every 4-5 days to see whats going on

It really sucks that most of the AZ stadiums don't have Statcast. Because it'd be a lot easier to find concrete things to hang our hat on. There are things like velo and exit velocity that mean something even in small samples and fake games.

As it stands I know there was a study a few years ago that mentioned that ST walks and strikeouts had a little bit of predictive value. So I know I'll personally be looking at those for the kids and also Bellinger.

Coomer does not like the pitch clock.

I do not like Coomer

me neither. or the fact that he says balls were "crunched."

that doofus will never grow on me.

So to combat the new shift rules, looks like teams may consider putting and outfielder in short RF and left center and RF in the outfield. Red SOx did that with Gallo at the plate.

I see a batter step up to the plate, my wife asks me a brief question, I answer and look back towards the TV and the count is 3-2. This is wild.

Question: are batters still allowed to call time after the pitch clock goes below 8 seconds?

I really like that the Cubs have several players with speed on the base paths. Chicks love the long ball, but the running element can make for some really good scoring opportunities throughout the year.

Yeah, 6 guys in the everyday lineup have above average speed. And the bench should have some more available.

I'm curious to see if it translates into steals or if it stops at guys taking the extra base here and there.
