2022 MLB Playoffs Discussion

Jose Quintana is starting game 1 of a playoff series by choice in the year 2022

 

Anyways mostly made this to kick off the discussion but also to bitch about the schedule. Similar to the 2020 playoffs they are stacking a bunch of games early when everyone is working. Yes its nice to have playoff baseball when working but I would have loved to have a 9pm game to watch while I'm enjoying my Friday night. Here is day 1 schedule

 

11:07 - Rays (McClanahan) @ Guardians (Bieber)

1:07 - Phillies (Wheeler) @ Cardinals (Quintana)

3:07 - the Seattle horsefeathering Mariners (Castillo) at Blue Jays (Manoah)

7:07 - Padres (Yu!) @ Mets (Scherzer)

 

Day 2 schedule is broken up a little better with games at 11, 3, 6:30 and 7:30

 

 

WC predictions:

 

Rays over Guardians in 3

Phillies over Cardinals in 3

Mariners over Blue Jays in 2

Mets over Padres in 2

Gonna be hard for me to root for any team in NL. Probably Padres by default. I’ll root for anyone in the AL other than the Evil Empire or Dusty.

I think people are really sleeping on the Mets chances of winning this whole thing because of last weekend's embarrassment. If they take care of the Padres in 2, they'll be able to get two deGrom starts and a Scherzer start in a five game series against the Dodgers, and as scary as the Dodgers are give me the Mets in that series.

Oh, and they'd still have Scherzer ready to start game 1 of the NLCS.

 

I also think the Phillies and Mariners are a bit underrated. Everyone's like "aww good for you buddy you snapped the drought" but these are good teams with fearsome front of the rotation starters who could horsefeathers you up in a short series.

Phillies? I mean I don't love Philadelphia sports and their fans but the 11 year drought plus Schwarber plus Castellanos plus the potential ability to say the Cubs went 6-0 against the pennant/WS winner is enough to make me favorable towards them.

It is foolish to hope, but in this format burning Helsley for 30 pitches and not finishing off the win would be a worst case scenario for the Cards

What was Edman's positioning there, double play width but just about in the baseline? Maybe they don't turn that particular DP on Segura but spot feels like the worst of all worlds
