Illinois has play on week 0, a Friday game and now a Thurs game. They were fairly competitive last season and sometimes entertaining. I think in the questionable West they have a shot at 7 to 8 wins. Though their last 2 cross conference games are Mich and MSU. I live fairly close to Champaign I I feel like I care more than any Illinois fan I know. I know it's been bad but it clearly is getting better, where is any support.

My company colors have been orange and blue for 20 years now.

Go team.

As far as fan excitement is concerned, I can’t blame my fellow Illini fans. They’ve been so bad for so long. 2nd worse P5 school over the last 10 years (Kansas) and 5th worst over the last 25 years (Duke, Kansas, Vandy, Indiana). There are two generations of fans who’ve never experienced Illinois as a consistent winner.

On top of that, DIA has repeatedly alienated the fanbase beyond just the bad football. (I don’t want to get into the Chief stuff except to say that’s only a small part of what I’m taking about here.) The football games are just not fun fan experiences, and someone, somewhere along the way forgot that football games are supposed to be fun.

But to your larger point, Illinois should be 3-1 after this week headed into the meat of their schedule. On paper, they may not be favored in any of their next 7 games until they close out with NW. but none of Iowa (home), Nebraska (road) or Purdue (home) look like world beaters. Win 2 of those 3 and then take care of business against the Kitties and they’re bowling, which would be a huge step in Bielema’s second season.

(Of course the Illini fan in me knows, deep in my heart, that the fluke loss to Indiana is what’s going to keep them out of a bowl.)

I think blowing that game in Indiana contributed a ton to kill fan buzz. They should be 3-0 right now with an outside shot in the B1G West, but now they're already in a hole in conference after losing to one of the worst teams in it.

Illinois shutout Chattanooga 31-0 to get to 3-1 on the year. Should be 4-0, and though Chattanooga is an FCS team, they're one of the better FCS teams, so it's still a pretty good win.

Ten days until a game at Wisconsin that should actually be a decent measure of whether they'll be competitive in the division this year or not. Not that they should win, but keeping it competitive to the end would be a big difference from the past few years.

In years past I feel like this is a game that Illinois would have played a lot closer than last nights final. I am not a huge Beilema guy, but just having a competent CFB coach seems to be making a big difference on the field for Illinois. I am not all in with Illinois but the product has been a lot better last year and the beginning of this season

Apparently Michigan has played the easiest schedule in the country, so maybe we’ll learn something about them tomorrow

Michigan is favored over Maryland by 17 and 80% of the money is still going towards Michigan so....maybe not. Kinnick next week is the test. First road game against a great defense.

Feel free to bump this post if Michigan unexpectedly has a very close win or loses.

I don’t think they’ll lose, but Maryland loves chucking the ball and can put up a lot of points.

They did last year too and Michigan won 59-18 in College Park. Different Michigan defense and as you implied untested but playing at home Michigan shouldn't have an issue (Boy I'm giving myself a lot of potential crow to eat)

Michigan may hang 70 on Maryland

Bet the over

Well Michigans defense looks terrible so far and they look shell shocked playing Maryland. You may end up being right derwood

I'm shocked at how little scoring there has been in that game

Weird. 20 points in the first quarter, 10 the next 2. Feel bad for those that slammed the over

If Auburn loses this game to Mizzou, Harsin might get the Herm Edwards treatment walking off the field.

Edit: I HATE it when teams do what mizzou is doing at the end of this game. Tied with 1st and goal at the Auburn 3 yard line, they horsefeathers around for 3 downs and try to win with a field goal. Too many bad things can happen on special teams.

AND…there you go.

I would understand it more if the score was 42-42 and neither team could get a stop, though even then you still just get the ball in the end zone. But you allowed 217 yards total in the game! Trust your defense to not give up a TD in less than 40 seconds.
