I mean, why not just swap Clint (or whatever he wants to be called) Frazier for him? Both former blue chippers with big league success, both young enough that there’s the off chance that they can do it again. And it’s not like 1B is locked down by the AAAA Brothers.

Dom Smith sucks but he's more worthwhile than anything else we could throw out at 1B.

 

I think at this point 1B next year is probably Patrick Wisdom with a LH compliment. Hopefully that's ultimately Matt Mervis, but maybe Dom Smith can show enough this year to get first crack at that job.

Missed this from the other thread mention, but the same sentiment applies. Smith would basically be a waiver claim in acquisition cost, and if he shows signs of being fixed then you have a decent 1B/DH/LF option that hits left handed(which is sorely needed) on a roster that doesn't have a ton of promising 1B options. If he's still terrible you non-tender him and all you've lost were those at bats, which they don't have anyone more worthwhile to give at the MLB level anyway.

He literally has not hit a HR in over a year. I don't know that I've ever seen a player's batted ball profile change so much. His LD% is down to 16.2% after averaging around 25% over the previous 4 years. His GB% is 47.5% which is just crazy for a power hitter. His HARD% is way down and his Pull% is way down as well. I think there's something that can be fixed there, but it's pretty obvious that swing is seriously broken compared to where it was in 2020. The cost for him would have to be basically nothing, like no one in the top 30.
