Sorry this becomes the daily chat thread. I saw Henricks was put on the IL today meaning that our IL now consists of Hendricks, Stroman, Miley and Smyly. Imagine if this was a season where fans expected us to compete when our top 4 starters are all injured. On the bright side this has given Steele and Keegan tons of major league innings and given us a chance to evaluate several other starters, though I'm not sure if anyone else has really emerged.

And Alzolay and Mills, too. The top 6 starting pitchers in the organization headed into this year.

On a related note, what the heck with Sampson? He got shelled in Korea. Has never been anything special at AAA, but just keeps getting people out for the Cubs through about 50 innings.

I get your point on the injuries, but also the main reason (or at least a main reason) no one expected us to compete is probably pretty related to the fact that those four pitchers have put up 1.7 fWAR in 193 innings so far this year. If these are our top 4 pitchers, health wasn't going to be the deciding factor on whether we were good or not.

I was just typing that Sampson is looking really good and Sampson gave up a long dong. He's pissed he didn't get the strike call before.

Burns has gotten a lot stronger as the game has progressed, like most aces. He just threw a 97 MPH cut fastball.

Sampson now has a 2.86 ERA in 56.2 innings pitched as a Cub between 21 and 22. He was DFA’d and unclaimed by any other teams at one point during this period.

He also has a 5.07 ERA in 110 Triple A innings during that time. Very strange.

At 100 pitches through 7. I assume they will turn it over to Williams and Hader to finish it off. One more Hader flop would be hilarious though.

I thought Morel got that one.

But PJ Higgins has been impressive. I thought he was a complete nothing, and maybe he still is, but he has been hitting consistently since he got called up.
