Saw a rumor that Gallup expects to be 100% by August. Could be coming from his camp to up his FA value, but if true that would definitely make him that much more desirable to the Bears (and other teams). The one thing I didn't like about Gallup was the chance of missing camp and the start of the season. Would love Fields to get an entire camp throwing to his main targets unlike last season. Wouldnt stop me from signing him but makes him slightly less appealing.

I'm anxious to see who they target in FA at the WR position.

Christian Kirk, please.

fortunately, this no longer qualifies as bears news, but bears related

Looks like Mitch will have a nice landing spot next season.

I dont' see Mitch signing anywhere without a starting opportunity. The league has seen evidence that Nagy was not QB friendly. Couple that with Mitch's athleticism and renewed confidence in himself (also from Bills staff) and I think he won't settle for a back up job. Matt Ryan is still in ATL right?

Probably not for long. Mitch could probably hold out for a starter's gig, but I really doubt anybody hands him the keys unopposed. Filling in for a team in transition is Mitch's best option and Atlanta should be in transition.

Matt Ryan, I believe I read, has the highest cap hit in NFL history for 2022. It's like 48.6Mil. They could cut him, but they'd only get 8M in relief (paying him 40). They could June 1 cut him which leaves them on the hook for 25M toward the cap this coming year, but saves 23M. They are over the cap as a team somehow and have some solid FAs they probably want to re-sign. They'll probably trade Ridley, cut or trade Grady Jarrett, and then if they trade/cut Ryan after June 1, they'll have a solid chunk to spend. Probably best to get out of that Ryan deal now and start the rebuild. Mitch would be a good bridge QB there.

Steelers fans are also talking themselves into Trubisky as well....which I guess kinda happens when your team comes out and says Mason Rudolph is their starter.

Assuming no Rodgers/Wilson trades there will be plenty of teams in transition without a Matt Ryan type around, Mitch has got options

1 year prove-it as starting QB: Steelers, Redskins, Saints, Broncos, Bucs

Compete with shaky incumbent starter: Panthers, Texans (Mills), Giants, Browns, Dolphins, Colts,

Not sure how to classify Goff/Lions

I was looking through a list of FA's trying to find players 29 and younger that had played a certain % of snaps last season. Those criteria whittle the list down very quickly. Mike Williams, Zach Pascal, Christian Kirk, Kalif Raymond made the cut I was using, though I should lower it for WR compared to other positions like OL, Safety, CB, etc.

Oohhh heeelll yeeaaahh!

Seriously, nobody likes to lose their job (been there). They'll land on their feet somewhere else though. Maybe not in their current positions / levels.

I agree on Pace. I think he'll get a role as like an AGM or Scouting Director or something like that, and probably be pretty successful.

Nagy though? I think he's gonna have to drop down to college, and not a good one. Most failed head coaches were highly thought of coordinators, and can just slide back into that role. But after the last 2-3 years, who in their right mind would give Nagy an OC job?

Andy Reid.

Based on the various reports coming out of combine week, it seems like the FA plan might be to go get a legit star at WR and otherwise focus on depth in the second/third waves.

10 WR ran sub 4.4s tonight, including a 4.21 which would set a record. I feel like one of those guys will be our first pick. I just really don't want to see Poles trade up for one. Just be patient and hold onto our picks.

My fault, those were unofficial times. The record still stands.

Interesting QB analysis that is very favorable to Fields. (3 different charts in the tweet chain if you click on it)

Fields was the 3rd most accurate deep ball passer, 10th most accurate deep ball passer under pressure and 3rd most accurate tight window passer.

No idea how much this says about overall QB skills though. While most of the names at the top are the usual suspects (Mahomes, Allen, etc) Zach Wilson and Daniel Jones pop into a couple of these top 10s while Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady were below average in all 3 charts. Deep ball isn't necessarily their games though.

With that accuracy, he had 0TDs and 3INTs. Underlines the shitty receivers that the Bears rolled out.

This and, I remember reading Fields throws to open receivers were amongst the lowest, if not the lowest, in the NFL. That had to be a side effect of the fraud known as the Nagy offense.

I think part of this is that Fields had to recalibrate himself from college open to NFL open. We saw him make those throws in the Steelers game down the middle of the field. Then he got hurt a couple times and we didn't see him continue displaying this skill, but I think he gets it now.

Sucks so badly that he missed almost the entire 2nd half of the season. After that Steelers game he played one below average half against the Ravens and then was out a month, then came back for I think 2 games and then was done. Almost no chance to build off that Steelers game. Even in Matt Nagy's shitty offense I bet if he doesn't get hurt the discussion on Fields this offseason is a little different because he would have shown more improvement later on in the season.

Edit: I almost forgot that the 49ers game was right before the steelers game too. He was nothing special as a passer in the 49ers game but he looked a lot more confident and comfortable in that game leading up to the Steelers game.

49ers game he was very decisive in scrambling. I'm not crazy about a lot of designed runs and read option for the same reason as Trubisky, he gets hurt when he's a runner. Scrambling on broken pass plays is less of a concern for me and likely enough running action to achieve the utility of his athleticism.
