JJ Stankevitz (Colts writer) is on the Score right now and talked about the biggest thing about Ehberflus is adaptability, and that he does really scheme to the strengths/weaknesses of the opponent rather than just having a set "this is what we do" approach (he was kind of talking about it in the same way we were discussing how the Patriots will do this back when McDaniels was a conversation still).

Whoa, wait a minute, does he mean take advantage of what the opponent is giving up, adjusting, going after their weaknesses? WTF is that?

CHICAGO BEARS: QB JUSTIN FIELDS

2021 PFF Grade: 64.2

As bad as the situation was in Year 1 for Fields, he showed a lot of promise in the Windy City with his arm talent and 4.4 speed. Fields recorded a 6.1% big-time throw rate and 14 explosive runs of 10 or more yards, both of which were fifth among quarterbacks in 2021. Fields rarely put the ball in harm's way from a clean pocket, as evidenced by his fifth-ranked 1.4% turnover-worthy play rate on clean-pocket dropbacks. It wasn’t a banner rookie campaign, but he still showcased the traits to be a star quarterback.

I think an NFL head coach just has to manage a team well, manage the clock and timeouts, and make good decisions on whether to go for it or not. Plenty of good OC's and DC's have failed, we've seen that with Matt Nagy.

i think i missed this the first time around

Some of the names here are:

Mike McDaniel- I believe had a 2nd interview w/ the Jags. May not take an OC job with already getting a ton of interest w/o calling plays

Luke Getsy- with Hackett getting the job in Denver, Getsy is likely either going with him or becoming OC in Green Bay I would assume

Rich Scangarello- 49ers QB coach, fired by Fangio after 1 year as OC in Denver in 2019

Bobby Slowick- been an offensive and defensive asst in SF for several years now, interesting but obviously 0 play calling

Kevin O'Connell- big fan of his coaching future, OC in LA, doesn't call plays

Wes Phillips- pass game coordinator/TE coach, son of Wade, again 0 play calling experience

If I'm reading correctly, none of these guys have called plays except for a guy that's very likely not coming here?

Is experience calling plays overrated?

Yes.

it didn't say which Shanahan. Couple be Kubiak finally coming to take the reins!

I mean technically, it is Mike's tree. Kubiak has a kid coaching one of these teams as well. I think something on defense for the Packers?

Vikings OC

There's a lot to pick apart with this "analysis" but at least thought it was interested to look at recent similar situations. PS you'll need to click on the tweet to see the full picture which shows their best offensive season after the hire. Flores was the only one that was able to significantly improve on that side of the ball.

He has 3. Klint is Vikings OC (or was?), Klay is the one I was thinking of he's a D assistant in SF. Klein is something for Denver or Dallas.

Yeah I don't think this means anything. I'm not going to go through every roster but I believe this year's Dolphins we're the only one of those teams that had decent personnel on the offensive side of the ball? (And to be fair, they did underperform which would help make the point)

His reasons for excluding Staley and McDermott were shaky, likely because they undermine this narrative.

Like that he spent 5 years in Ravens org and then Philly. Two winning orgs, one in Baltimore I'm particularly fond of. Another former lineman (Virginia).

I dont think of Philly as a winning org. They had a fluke super bowl run and not a whole lot more.

Fluke is probably wrong word but it was a one off great season bookended by mediocrity.
