The Bears would still have to offer compensation for Payton since he's still under contract through 2024, despite his retirement correct? What type of picks has this historically required teams to give up?

I highly doubt Peyton ends up in Chicago for two reasons; 1) I thought NOLA and OMC were saying he wanted a break from coaching and 2) the compensation the Bears would have to send to NO via picks. We are thin on picks as it is. If I'm NO, I'd want the draft picks. Can they do it with just money?

We've probably given up on Daboll at this point but

They should at least get Daboll in the building. They'd be doing a disservice if they don't

I have a feeling Poles mentioned some names that he’d be interested in hiring during his 1st interview and Daboll wasn’t on that list. I could be wrong but we’ve heard nothing about any other candidates in a while

I had understood that McCaskey and his advisors have their top 3 candidates, who Poles will interview tomorrow (Caldwell, Eberflus, Quinn) .

If he likes one of those 3, the Bears have a head coach.

If not, he will expand the list and interview others after tomorrow.

My understanding is these guys were mutual to Poles initial list as well. But he may have others. But Quinn sounds like it really may happen

The way I read it was that the search team had those three coaches, but Poles insisted on being able to hire who he wants, presumably including others not in the final 3 three. If correct, then Daboll, Flores, whoever may be in play. It would be interesting to see if Poles wants Flores, for example. Does George just say OK or does he want to push back and say I didn't like him?

So in my scenario, maybe the Bears said, yes, hire who you want (even someone we didn't like - this is the questionable part), but please start with our three finalists before expanding the grouping.

I think it's a little more like: we already had these guys scheduled because they were tops for us and you so you're first few interviews are scheduled. You can take the rest from here though. If he wants to bring back Flores or someone totally new I think he'll be able to.

Speaking of the Vikings

Same guy lol

Between the GB choke job and beating Vikes to Poles, there's big "winning the offseason" vibes for the Bears

I know it means nothing, but fun for now after slogging through a Nagy lame duck season.
