What is so good about Premium, anyway?

Now that Premium access is restricted, I thought it would be a good idea to put together a list of features that have been added to the Premium UI so that people could see what they get for their (paltry :) ) $5/month. As I continue to add things that are Premium-only, I'll keep this list updated. If I'm forgetting anything, please PM me with what I've left out. So, without further ado (and in no particular order), here it is:

 

• The "Unread Message" flags remain unread even after closing the browser and coming back in. No longer do you have to read everything at once or lose what's been read and what hasn't.
  
• Clicking on the orange "new post" flag brings up the first unread post in the thread -- no matter how many times the thread has bee visited during the current session. (During the game yesterday, I probably checked the thread 50 times by clicking on that and going directly to the first unread message. So much easier than trying to remember what was the last page I looked at and going back there by page number.)

 

By far the two best.

I've got a couple that don't do anything (for instance the whistling guy). But the rest all seem to work fine. Have you tried all of them or just a couple?

Looks like I've got debugging to do this weekend. The scrollbars on the edit window act funky, too. The edit width is a bit wider than the window on Firefox.

 

I hate cross-browser issues. :ncool:

More good stuff:

 

• I found a way to have long text lines (like aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh) not stretch the screen so that a scroll bar becomes necessary.
  
• Premium users don't have to see the advertisements (and there's just going to be more and more in the regular forum. And those of you that are looking at them, please, click through and buy stuff! I'm trying to find interesting stuff to advertise, at least. :) ).

I was just wondering if it was at all possible for there to be some way for a member to have a default font (a la Flashchat). That being, that wheneve I enter text, it automatically posts it like this. It would certainly be much eaiser than clicking color, glow, font every time.[/glow]

 

EDIT: Just so you know, I am experimenting to find a red/black or Black/white combo that doesnt murder the eyes. So, no, it wont be this annoying forever.

LOL, apparently you caught that South Park episode? Even before I saw that, I always felt like it was a pretty poor choice to have an obese American woman asking people to give money so that starving kids in Africa can eat.

I'm confused.

here was my code logic up until today in checking whether someone was premium:

 

if(user is in premium table), then (premium = true);

 

Which meant that people that had paid $5 back in August were still getting premium, even though they haven't paid for October.

 

Now, the logic looks like this:

 

if(user is in premium table and today

 

(with the side note that subscription users have an end date set out in 2040 until such a time as they cancel their subscription)

This is more of an announcement:

 

I will no longer be uploading custom avatars for non-premium users. I'll still do it for Premium users (though they can do it themselves, too).

 

This is a question:

 

With all the traffic on this site, it is expensive to maintain. For those that aren't contributing to the support of the site (non-premium users), would it be fair to limit the bandwidth they consume by not allowing signature images + avatars? I have mixed feelings on this one, so I'm open to arguments from both sides.

 

(For those that are curious, the site has already consumed over 40 GB of bandwidth this month. Well over 90% of that is consumed by non-premium members.)

you should let them(us for now but i'll be premium in a week) have no sig images and small avatars. or change the curent premium's name to platinum and make a premium like $1.50 or something for added avatar and sig space. if that's confusing i'm proposing 3 levels of nsbb.

The regular forum isn't set up to allow linked avatars. I'll think about changing that if there's sufficient demand.
