New Cub Vizcaino faces the Cardinals #4, #6 and #7 prospects in the first inning. He Ks the first two and gets a FO from the third - 1,2,3 first inning and his day is done. Old Cub Albertos starts the second inning.

New Cub Canario draws a BB but is thrown out trying to steal in the bottom of the first.

New Cub Bryce Ball Ks on 3 pitches.

Listening on radio, Albertos actually pitched very well in the second despite loading the bases and giving up two unearned runs. Only 1 ball was hit out of the infield, a chopper over the 3B head. Announcers said he had a batter struck out twice (confirmed on pitchtrax), but didn't get the call and ended up walking the guy. A couple of errors and an infield single later and it's 2-0. No idea what his velocity was like, but he pitched well.

Obviously needs to work on the contact, but he really had been hitting the horsefeathers out of the ball night in and night out

Howard on paper would seem the better prospect than Made, with more ceiling. Everybody seems completely confident about his defense, and he's a bigger/stronger with greater power potential.

But, in the end hitting trumps size, so in the end the one that ends up hitting better will end up being the better prospect. For now, Made has the edge, since he's hitting better now and is younger besides. But there's a lot of time left for them to show whether either or both has a chance to hit enough to play in the majors.

Davis gunned a guy at the plate yesterday. I wanted to go to a few of the games in Montgomery this past week, but COVID is on fire down here.

Howard is probably the best defensive SS in the system, but that bat just has so far to go. People were talking about him "starting to figure it out", but he's still hitting at a disastrous .181/.238/.245 clip over the past month (101 PAs). With that said, it's not like Made has been tearing the cover off the ball, either. He needs to have much more than an empty .293 average over the past month with a 29.5% K rate to get near Howard for me.
