Tampa is ecstatic about being able to offload this contract, which they've been trying to do for years. This should tell us all we need to know about Bowman's move. Stan has never been a savvy GM when it comes to handling salary cap issues and making the best of situations. He inherited an incredibly talented team and made some quality finishing touches, but this team has been going downhill for half a decade. The rebuild has gone just about nowhere, as 1 of the 2 potential impact young guys was just traded away after a middling start. They've given away the next few drafts.

People defend this move by saying the guy they got "can be useful", but have we not learned that "useful" with a $5m cap hit is a huge burden on a team? At least on a team lacking in high end talent like this one.

There's a lot of reason to believe that some of the motivation behind all these moves is to distract from the very huge story about sexual assault being swept under the rug while the victim was harassed by teammates after coming forward. When personnel moves are made with motives other than making the team better, whether that's salary cap dumps or for PR reasons, you are almost guaranteed to get taken advantage of by higher quality front offices.

And it looks to me like that has happened here.

I can't speak for others, but for me this has not distracted from the sexual assault story at all. Neither did trading for Jones, Fleury or anything else. I possess the relatively common ability to focus on more than one thing at a time.

I am not speaking about the individual's ability to hold two thoughts. I am speaking about the PR strategy of delay and deflect. They went a month with nothing but sexual assault stories and with all this sound and fury it's abound to take more of a back seat.

Are they happy to have other things to talk about? Of course. You bet your ass they are.

Is there also a built-in reason for the timing of all this? Yes - the NHL schedule of events is driving when these transactions are taking place as much as (or even much more than) anything else.

I don't know if the Blackhawks are trying to be good or bad, but they will definitely be different this coming season. Trust the process? Probably not.

and the hawks havent been trying to unload seabrook for years?

you keep talking about how terrible the move is but you havent explained how Seabrook's ltir benefits outweigh getting an actual player and a pick. everything I've read suggests this is a great trade for the lightning and a fine one for the blackhawks.

The cap is fake?

now this is a great signing. theres our new hjalmarsson.

Are we counting on injuries or should we go ahead and trade Mitchell, Beaudin, Kalynuk, etc.? Because I don't see any openings on the blue line for those guys.

While I’m not a huge fan of the way they went about I do get this was probably as much about convincing Fleury they were seriously looking to contend this year. And if it works, it’s a pretty good plan.

That's what confusing me, it's literally "flowery"? I feel like I've heard it pronounced "flu-ree"

oh, i saw that on my phone and thought it was supposed to be a a snowflake flurry or something
