Pat Foley is retiring after next season (and will be limited next season too). I've lived through plenty of longtime Chicago broadcasters retiring or dying, and none of their departures will effect the broadcast as much as Foley leaving. Hoping we see many stoppages at 3:33 in the 3rd in a 3-3 game next year.

Is the board really not going to discuss this Blackhawks sexual assault thing? It's extremely disappointing to hear about all of this and puts a dark cloud over their 3 cups IMO.

I don't really have anything to add other than McDonough seems like exactly the type of executive that would sweep this under the rug. I also don't think Bowman can skate on this. He wasn't some underling with no say in the organization.

I also don't really care about the "cloud over the cups" side of the story.

wow, Aldrich left the Hawks and continued to be predatory. this is a horsefeathering terrible look for the team:

"Vincent told TSN this month that he informed then-president John McDonough, general manager Stan Bowman, executive Al MacIsaac and skills coach James Gary about Aldrich’s alleged assault at a meeting in 2010, but that the group of Hawks executives rejected his request to report the incident to the police."

If true. Strip the 2010 title, make everyone within the organization eligible for civil suits both with the Hawks and future crimes, and punish the current squad with loss of picks, etc. It should cripple the franchise.

It's sad that there isn't much difference between this and Penn St.

Yep, I'm just getting around to reading the Athletic article. Went on to assault a High school hockey player, with a positive reference from the Hawks. So it's not even like they sloppily tried to sweep bad stuff under the rug, just flat out ignored it, it sounds like. Awful.

Yea, re: Bowman, US Hockey should be letting him go, too.

Q isn't part of the org any longer, but he isn't blameless here either.

Yep, and the assistant GM at the time is now the GM of Winnipeg. For a team that was that successful for that long, I'm guessing there are people all over the league that were in the room at the time. You can tell the NHL is going to try and ignore it during the finals, but hopefully people keep digging and the people who fucked up have to face consequences, starting with the ones still employed by the Hawks.

Toews gives some detail about the illness that kept him out last year and his plans to return next year:

"hey guys look over here, this is definitely what you should be talking about with regards to the blackhawks"

Posted
eh, toews was going to make an announcement like this sometime during the summer. I don't think it's really fair to assume he was part of a PR plot to take attention away from the story. If anything, it just draws more eyes to the Blackhawks and the sexual assault story is bigger than this

In other distracting Blackhawks news, there's a lot of twitter chatter that the blackhawks are working to deal Keith out west to be closer to family as his career winds down. This has been the most obvious move in the rebuild era and probably is inevitable in some way shape or form.
