Bears announced signing of Marquise Goodwin.

did we know about this? I feel like this is new

Good to have speed, but I'd imagine he's still roster bubble material. With another deep draft I'd put a decent sized bet on Pace drafting a WR again.

I actually kinda wanted Goodwin. He's a younger, faster version of whatever Ted Ginn was supposed to be for the Bears last year. Fresh legs after opting out. I think he's good enough to make the team if he's healthy, which is always an issue with him. But he's a good 4th WR.

I think the Bears draft 2 WRs in this draft still. I think they get a slot WR early and a developmental outside guy late in the draft to kinda hedge against Robinson leaving after the season. They've all but said Miller is being traded. And I think Wims can get cut any day now. They actually can't afford Goodwin without a move because they have 520K in cap space, so I wouldn't be surprised if Wims is the corresponding move.

That is awful. It is difficult to see anyone go through that. His condition seems to be progressing rapidly and I wouldn't be surprised if that sit down session is the last time we see him. I hope his family can get the help they need to take care of him.

The video of that interview was tough to watch.

I was listening to Waddle & Silvy this afternoon and Mongo's wife called in and he woke up from a nap during the call and got on the phone as well. It got me pretty emotional, I just can't imagine anyone having to go through that disease. I am glad he is getting a lot of love and support from former teammates right now and now from the fans since it is public now.

Well I am genuinely giddy about Fields. My whole theory about the stability of Pace and Nagy keeping their jobs was about giving Pace an opportunity to select a QB with a legit offensive coach's input. Trubisky was a disaster on all fronts, and a big part was the siloed approach to scouting and selecting him. When the head coach had no idea he was the guy, that's not a good thing. Pace and Nagy now probably have two years, 2021 and 2022 to make Fields look like he might be the real deal. They probably don't have to win 12 games or even make the playoffs this season. But as long as it is not a complete bed [expletive], 4-12 and Fields looks like trash kind of season, they'll get to spend next offseason trying to surround Fields with the talent needed to win.

When does Fields start? Before or after Halloween? My guess is after. I doubt it goes the way of the Alex Smith / Patrick Mahomes transition, but Nagy has to be thinking that's the ideal scenario. Make the playoffs with the veteran, get the rookie one start then hand him the keys next offseason.

Dalton hasn't exactly been a picture of health. Hasn't made it through 16 in 3 seasons (last year wasn't the starter, but got hurt on an illegal hit to miss a game). When Fields starts all depends on how well he grasps the offense and how well the team plays. There will be a LOT of pressure to play him early. Maybe not Week 1, but I'd put the over/under around Week/Game 5 (same week Mitch got the reins). Even if Dalton is winning games, unless he's putting up 100+ QB ratings and 30 ppg on offense, the desire to play Fields will still be there.

lots of solid OT, CB, and WR prospects left to choose from today for the Bears. Almost wondering about trading down from 52 (to the mid 60s?) to try and pick up a 4th or 5th rounder?

Does a guy like Fields really need an entire year to learn? I say as long as they can protect, let him play

Agreed. Can't really be more tested on the college level as far as level of competition and high stakes games he played in over the last 2 years. He obviously has things to work on, but I definitely don't see him as a guy that needs to sit the entire year. For the record, I don't think Mahomes needed to either. In fact, I think almost nobody NEEDS to sit. Not really sure it's been proven either way that a QB learns a ton from watching someone else play football.

I don't think it's a need either, but I think it's going to be a preference for Nagy.

when he comes in in the preseason and lights up the 3rd and 4th stringers the calls for him to start are going to get loud.

i could see it playing out a lot like glennon/mitch in 2017 except with a lot better supporting cast and no john fox

I think Jenkins is the one guy I'd really like, even trade up a few slots if you could make it happen. Otherwise, a lot of these guys feel like they jumble, so yea trade down a recoup a 4th or 5th if you can, even if it's a 2022 pick IMO (should be a better eval year next)

I tend to agree more or less. I don't think you can ruin a guy by rushing him. The question is if you can maximize him or not. For instance, I think Fields has the slowest release time of the top 5 guys. Can sitting and focusing on training for a year accelerate him improving that? Maybe? Should he be good enough to overcome that anyways, yes.

Also, I never actually putyself in a position to be let down by Trubisky.

That is not true with Fields. I'm so all in. Please don't let me down lol.

Good point. I'm definitely setting myself up for disappointment in a way I never did with Mitch.

I'd be surprised if they put Fields third on the depth chart. Foles was a nice insurance policy until they were able to get their guy, but now that they have him, it would make sense to find a taker, even if compensation is minimal.

Nagy & Pace are both on the hot seat so there is no way I believe that Fields isn't the starting QB by game 6-8 unless Dalton is lighting it up (lol).
