Well let’s see, the harshest penalty ever given out was a lifetime ban

Astros being eliminated from the MLB confirmed.

So between the natural brain drain that occurred over the last two offseasons and now this, Houston is now down 4 or 5 if the half dozen people most responsible for their success the last few years. Yikes.

Doesn’t seem harsh enough. No players punished is ridiculous, they were complicit, really not de-incentivizing them not to cheat still. The fine and draft picks loss should’ve been harsher, should’ve had an IFA loss component to it too. Most teams would take this punishment for a title, imo.

The fine was the MLB maximum.

the players can't really do anything without front office assistance, and front office personnel can't ignore a one year suspension.

That’s fair, the players still were in on it and carried it out. They knew it was a wrong in all likelihood and could’ve pushed back. I think the players involved at least should’ve got 10-20 games. They could’ve staggered the suspensions too so they weren’t all out at once.

I also suppose they wanted the tread lightly around the players on this with the rocky relationship currently between MLBPA and MLB and the upcoming CBA.

MLB was able to put this all together in like 2 months and we can't even get an arbitrator to read the CBA and say everything is kosher here for a 5 year old issue.

In conclusion award the Cubs the Astros' draft picks.

I'm also frustrated that no players were disciplined, but it's probably difficult to do that if significant numbers of players were involved.

The players may have benefited, but it was other people that carried out of the acts. And there isn't a managers union, or GM union or front office staff union.

This.........is an excellent observation.

The punishment was just. It isn't the NCAA where wins can be vacated.

Why not? The WS title should be stripped.

What does that do exactly? Force them to take the flag down? I always felt like the NCAA vacating wins was such a lame punishment. This would be the same effect.

All that technological superiority and they get nailed by banging a trash can with a bat. Hilarious.

When do we find out how their pitchers cheated?

The NCAA vacating wins is lame because it's usually done for lame reasons (people giving players money) more so than because the punishment itself is lame. I didn't really expect them to vacate the title, but if you were ever going to do it, large-scale and provable cheating would be the reason to do it.

Something with a substance used for a better grip, right? With the spin rates jumping so much that’s the speculation.
