Somewhere, some sick-horsefeathers Pirates fans are arguing "we can't know what he actually did. Such things are unknowable. Now gimme the player who will best help my sportsball team win."

Even if he somehow only gets a short sentence, I can't see MLB ever allowing him to step on the field again. Pretty huge blow to the Pirates.

You might have too much faith in professional sports.

Yeah, if he somehow manages to not get much jail time (hopefully hugely unlikely), I honestly would be kinda stunned if some team didn't sign him given how good he's been, unfortunately. horsefeathers, I wish I could say for sure I'd think the Cubs would never do such a thing, but...

Do the Patriots need a closer?

I’d be surprised if a team signed him. The kid from Oregon State would have been a top pick in the draft a couple years ago but didn’t even get drafted due to child molestation when he was 15.

The cynical side side of says that was still more due to him being a baseball prospect, no matter how highly rated, and still at least a relative long shot to ever be useful. The EXTRA cynical side of me says that a guy who has shown for 3 seasons in a row that he is a premier closer would almost certainly be signed if he managed to sneak away with minimal or no jail time.

I think there's zero chance that nobody in baseball knew what was up with Mel Hall, or at least heard rumors/gossip/etc..

A picture of Mel Hall and one of his victims at the victim's high school prom appeared in the Yankee's 1991 yearbook, per this story...https://www.sbnation.com/2014/7/15/5883593/the-many-crimes-of-mel-hall

So, yeah.
