WTF

Really? Wow, that's weird. Maybe to make space to carry an extra reliever? I'm sure he won't spend too much time down there.

Happ's swing did look bad at times last year, but you could say that for the majority of Cubs players in the second-half.

Adames makes the roster as a 2nd SS and Descalso/Bote get Happ’s PAs via Zobrist flexing to RF?

That’s what I was thinking too, but wasn’t there room for Happ and Adames with Russell being suspended? Or would that be 13 position player guys?

That’d be 13, Caratini/Bote/Descalso are the 3 locks before making that call. This distinction snuck up on me, I guess we spent so long with a position player on the DL I forgot Bote and La Stella were competing for a roster spot at full strength.

Yes, talking about last year’s roster. This year he’s embodied by Descalso

Yeah I think this is to get a real backup SS on the roster like TT said. Maybe a third catcher?

I don't actually hate the idea though. He was absolutely helpless against even the most mediocre of high fastballs last year, and his RH swing also kind of fell apart. I know he worked on those things over the winter, so spend a month showing that those adjustments worked.

This might also be, on another level, a shot across everyone's bow to not get complacent.

Also, given that the theme of this offseason has been that the Ricketts' are monsters, I can't help but point out that a little more than a month in Iowa would push Happ's arbitration back a year...

Happ has 1 year and 142 days of service time, he’d have to basically spend the whole year in Iowa to get an extra year out of him.

Just arbitration. Right now he'll be a super 2 and go through arb next winter, but roughly a month would push him to not getting arb until prior to the 2021 season. I don't actually think it's their motivation, I just thought it was funny.

does ian happ deserve to go to iowa?

If tomorrow started a playoff series he should be on the playoff roster, although not by a huge margin. YMMV on how much some regular ABs at Iowa will help him improve from that point.

almora had a .200 ops in the second half but he added a leg kick this spring so he totally deserves a roster spot
