Another scoreless, walkless inning by Chatwood. Did give up 2 hits but one was a weak GB finding a hole. Got a double play to end the inning.

Is the AtBat app accurate for games like this (spring training, no tv)

Because if it is, this is Chatwoods outing so far -

1st pitch out

1st pitch out

3 pitch strike out

1st pitch out

1st pitch base hit

1st pitch base hit

1st pitch double play

I haven't been following along on this game, so I just went back and it looks like every in play ball is 1st pitch, all walks are 4 pitches and all strike outs are 3 pitches, so I'm going to say not accurate

Yeah it's not accurate. I think when games are played in a park without pitch fx they have to rely on stringers, and when games are inconsequential enough the stringers don't even bother with pitch by pitch info. I believe if you Gameday minor league games at the really low levels it's the same (or at least was not too long ago).

The Chatwood stuff is really encouraging. Spring stats are mostly meaningless, but there was a study a few years back that showed that K/BB numbers do actually mean a tiny bit. If back in November there was a ~30% chance of him being fixed for 2019, those odds might be more like 40 something now. He's still probably trash, but the needle has moved.

I think the lack of walks are pretty significant and important for him so far. He was so broke last year he couldn’t navigate through a high school lineup without issuing walks. Not seeing walks so far is something to be encouraged by/take a little bit away from.

I see a DFA in Kintzler's future, there's too many other options to bother with this dud. Edited by Brian

I’m sure that contact management will come around any day now. The walks are especially concerning too, since he doesn’t have swing and miss stuff and relies on BABIP luck he can’t be giving free passes.

Chatwood at least has a history of succeeding with a tolerable if still troublesome walk rate. Maples has never done that, so he’s much more of a longshot to do it now.

they are both fixed

This may prove costly if the game situation calls for an IBB or a pitch around.

The game is on MLBN at 7:40 CT tonight, live not a replay, FWIW. No Darvish though, even though today is his day to start, he's doing a sim game/side session instead.

that Rizzo dong was so majestic Kershaw's knees buckled wherever he's at

The feed on MLB Network didn't even show a replay of it
