I'm not super versed in the workings of the cap, but in the Athletic today they laid out that the Bears only have $14.4 left after obvious resignings/renewals and whatnot. Bell would take up essentially all of that I think. Is he worth basically being forced to replace Amos and Callahan with day 3 draft picks? I lean no, but won't dismiss the idea out of hand.

My guess would be that the best course is to spread the money around. For example, sign one of the safeties the tier below Amos, a second tier RB like Coleman or Ingram, and an Aaron Lynch replacement (Terrell Suggs?). Then use the draft to find a Callahan replacement. Spreading the money also has the benefit of more likely comp picks, but that's a secondary concern.

I don't know if that's true re: draft picks. It's based on some combining total net FA losses and their relative impact. If you sign several more than you lose the credits can outweigh the debits, even if the ones you lost were more impactful.

I actually like this deal, could just be a Mizzell replacement as opposed to a Howard replacement.

If they're replacing Callahan with Skrine though, that's awful.

I bet Amos is going to get in the 10-12 million a year range. If that's the case, I'm fine with letting him walk. Callahan was always a guy I was nervous to give big money to given his injury history. I don't think you can count on him. Pretty underwhelmed with the guys they signed thus far.

You have to assume they have someone in mind to clear as much cap space as they have. Maybe I'm a meatball, but I want to see them sign Bell. Let's get crazy.

9m and change a year... a little lower than I thought but more than the Bears are willing to pay with Jackson's contract coming up.

Le'Veon Bell wasn't happy with the 3 year 45m offer Pittsburgh tried to give him last year. I think most of that was guaranteed. And then he sat out a whole year and didn't get paid at all. So how much will he be expecting someone to give him this year? With all of this cap space clearing going on, it's looking like the Bears are going to try to sign Bell. I don't think we are going to like that contract one bit. And I've heard rumors that he was up to 260 lbs recently because he was sitting on the couch like a slug.

I'm sure those reports are accurate.

This was him mid-season when there was still a possibility of him returning that year.
