Sure; it's just a disappointing when they put almost all of their eggs in that Super Offense basket, and then end up with this really....lopsided, inconsistent Super Offense. It's genuinely horsefeathering weird.

It sure is. But we still generally got the super offense and like Schwarber still hit what, his like 95th percentile of outcomes?? Career OPS over .800, career war over 6.5 in only ~2 seasons worth of games played, still only 25.

Flush this one out the system and come ready to play vs horsefeathers players tomorrow and do what we should do vs them. Go Rats, hopefully we are raising the Jolly Roger tonight

Not-So-Fun Fact: Quintana in 44 GS has given up 110 ER in 248 2/3 IP during his short run with the Cubs thus far. That leads to a not great 3.98 ERA overall. The Cubs have two very cheap options ($10.5 mil) for next season and 2020 so maybe he can turn it around.

It's still too early to determine the winner of this trade since we don't know what Eloy and Cease will do at the big league level, but it's not looking good for the Cubs right now. I'm a big believer in Eloy and think he'll be awesome. Not as big a fan of Cease, but he had a good year in the minors.

I want to go back to the days where I thought Schwarber was a budding superstar slugger, Bryant was going to be a top 3 MVP candidate annually, Russell was not a scumbag and would play like Larkin. Rarely do those things all turn out but sometime around November 2016 it all seemed pretty damn plausible.

Remember what's happened the next time people are getting all hot-and-bothered to sign someone in their pre-arb years to a mega-extension.

I’d still sign KB to a “mega extension” through his age 33/34 seasons (FA at age 31) in a heartbeat. The two times this FO has done it, it has at least worked out with Rizzo and Strop.

Doubt Boras is agreeing to anything like that but didn't the Cubs sign Rizzo after his down-year?
