Side note. Saw Max pitch a couple of times in college at Nebraska. Saw Cole and Bauer when UCLA came to town as well. Silly me for thinking Bauer was gonna be the stud of the bunch. Seriously the guy was SO impressive back then

I'm pretty terrified of our rotation, but it's hard for me not to be optimistic about Hamels. I was expecting average to below average stuff these days a la Lester and Quintana but that's not what I'm seeing. 95mph on that Soto pop up and a darting change to Harper. Showed a good curve against the Royals too

Murphy seems to be such an odd guy to throw such an extreme shift against since he seems to spray it everywhere. We also seem to be really bad at shifting this year and it seems we get beat by it more than getting outs, out of it.

Almora crushes fastballs from righties, specifically 4-seam fastballs, more specifically 4-seam fastballs up, and most specifically 4-seam fastballs up at elite velocity.

 

 

 

I think it's a good matchup for him. Scherzer throws a lot of fastballs and loves working up. Basically no one is a good matchup against Scherzer, but this is one specific skill that Almora has that might come in handy. Somehow.
