I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that was a routine play for Addison

It was very routine for Addison, tough for Javy and that ball isn't touched by Machado.

Is Willson calling pitches? A FB outside was an incredible bad pitch choice on a 1-2 count with a guy who was starting to better time up the FB.

I was just about to mention this. Just bring Gimenez up and let him catch Yu. Contreras is awful for him, because a guy with Yu's stuff and lack of command needs a framer and someone who can call a game.

Yeah, I really, really don't want Contreras catching Yu at this point. I mean, I'm kinda just desperate to see him not pitch like ass, but Contreras being the worst framer in all of baseball can't possibly be helping things.

I don’t understand why the Cubs have made Yu scrap his splitter.

Yeah I don’t get the calling there after he got 1-2. Any FB thrown at that point should’ve been higher than high or in the hands. I was thinking his slow curve would’ve been a good call after like the 3rd foul off. I also agree it’s weird he’s not throwing the split at all, seems like a important pitch to have in his mix to mess with timing.

Also Willson caught a few of his slider/cutters real poorly that inning that if received better could’ve been strikes.

While I don't have much faith in Farid or the Cubs today, Sammy Sofa already chalked this game as a loss for me in the "Game Thread Starters" post. He has me listed as 2-2. WTF?!?!? Edited by PackLandVA

I wouldn’t go as far “routine” but it was definitely a play you expect Russell to make. Schebler doesn’t run well either.

Nice work by Happ and Schwarber.

Is this confirmed? I know there was an article last week talking about Yu only using 2-3 of his pitches.

I thought it was his slider?

Oh yeah, just gimme that dong-y goodness instead of Yu's pu.

I just looked it up, maybe they aren’t classified right but he’s throwing a split and change a combined ~6% this year, which is more than the last few years. I don’t seem to recall seeing either of those pitches at all.

And yeah he’s basically only FB and slider/cutter this year.

is yu too easy to foul off? is there some kind of data for that?

reminds me rich harden--awesome stuff but racks up high pitch counts

In theory, if he’s only throwing a couple of different pitches, it’s easier to guess right and foul off.
