I'm too lazy to look this up: Do the Brewers as a small market have to give up any picks for signing Cain?

Yeah, think 2nd or 3rd pick and int. Money as well

And Thames?

I dunno

They'll be trading Santana and Phillips for pitching I'd bet and I wonder if Neil Walker doesn't sign there as well.

Well that's clearly not happening now

Braun to 1st

And Thames?

Thames was like borderline replacement level after the first month of the season. He's not important

That’s exactly what I wanted to say. Yep.

But really I was thinking, Braun is starting to break down and a move to first makes sense.

Yelich and Cain are the only 2 Brewers who project to finish inside the top 300, THREE HUNDRED, in MLB for WAR

Good God, how is that even possible?

Because they suck. Jimmy Nelson technically does as well but his shoulder exploded

there is no way that will hold true. You do 300 players and you're running into negative WAR guys

2017 fWAR leaderboard doesn't hit 0.0 WAR until 792, and -0.1 until 932

Sure at the end of the year actually it might not be true but right now it is with projections. Go to about the 9th paragraph. It’s real and it’s spectacular.

I like Cain as a guy who can give you 8-9 WAR pretty comfortably over the next 3 years but I would be terrified of owing him 35m for his age 35 and 36 seasons. And a NTC, to boot.

if you're getting $60ish+M worth of value over the first 3 years pretty comfortably, there's not a lot he has to do over those last two seasons for the contract to be value neutral.

why would you think that

If the Cubs don't make a move heading into the regular season, their moves are Chatwood and Morrow and lost Arrieta? The Brewers were nearly better than them last year.

Someone over on the Brewers boards said they lost the 73rd pick if I remember right.
