I guess I understand the logic of putting a free swinger in front of a pitcher, because a walk is not that useful. But this is the other side of it. You have a pitcher who has no incentive to throw a ball anywhere near the strike zone.

It wasn't the worst for sure, but it just seems lately he's swinging at everything. With a little bit of patience, he would be a beast at the plate.

To be fair, pitchers don't have a strong incentive to throw a ball anywhere near the strike zone regardless of where Javy is batting. Not all of the time but much of the time.

 

Although I will say that by hitting 8th, you are basically inviting Javy to swing even more freely than normal with RISP.
